⎛CHARACTER⎠
Name: Miharu Rokujo.

History: Miharu Rokujo's life was ordinary, boring, and just the way he liked it. He had good grades, a friend or two, and nobody really cared about his reputation at school. He and his current family lived on his real family's shrine, which he looked after every day. He could remember when he was a child, and he'd been happy, and popular with everyone, but that was before the car accident that killed his parents; now, living with his adoptive parents and adoptive little brother, he was content with an indifference to his life.

But clearly, Miharu was not suited for normalcy in his life. On his fourteenth birthday, after entering the wellhouse to fetch his cat Shiratama for his little brother Fuuta, bright light exploded forth from the well and something dragged Miharu down inside it. He was faced with an enormous, demonic centipede woman, who insisted upon him for the "Sacred Jewel" that his adoptive father had been talking about that morning; Miharu refused and pushed her away, surprised to see light pulse from his hand and tear her away from him. The next thing he knew, he was back at the bottom of the well, and he climbed his way out to find that he was no longer in his family's wellhouse; he was surrounded by grassy fields, forests, and no cities as far as the eye could see. But there was one thing he recognised -- the gigantic, ancient tree from his shrine.

He made his way to the forest to the familiar tree, and was still no closer to home; the shrine wasn't there at all, and now there was some bizarre boy pinned to the tree with an arrow through his chest. In the middle of Miharu's curious inspection of the seemingly dead boy, the villagers arrived, tied him up, and carted him back to their town. Lord Shamal, the resident high priest, was quick to blow off Miharu and claim him as a demon, but after they attempted to purify him, something reacted strangely, and Shamal announced that somehow, the demon child was a reincarnation of his old friend, Dino Cavallone. People began to worship Miharu as the new form of the village's great priest, which he took full advantage of over the time of his stay.

It wasn't long, though, before the centipede demon found him again, and attacked the village in its search for him. In an attempt to draw it away, Miharu ran into the forest -- which he'd found out was known as the 'Forest of Hibari' --, and while he awaited the demon's arrival, he discovered another strange turn of events; the boy, impaled by an arrow and held to a tree, was not dead. In fact, he was perfectly alive and well, mocking Miharu and calling him by the name of "Dino Cavallone"; he asked why "Dino" was hiding in a new form, and started a brief snark-battle with Miharu until the centipede returned, again with the intent of stealing the Sacred Jewel. The villagers soon followed, but were unable to stop the demon before she bit into Miharu and ripped out the jewel from inside of him.

Miharu didn't know what it was about this place that made him feel different. It should be scary-- he should want to leave, and never return. Wasn't home a much nicer place? Where the only trials he had to face were school and getting through the teenage years?

But he didn't want to leave. He wanted his obstacles to be giant, fire-breathing demons and horrifying curses. Maybe it was the thrill, the escape from his boring life-- but he liked boring just fine, didn't he? It wasn't the others that kept him here. They'd be fine, maybe better without him constantly being hunted. And he didn't need them, anyway.

Whatever, he dismissed easily, halting in his steps. It doesn't really matter anyway.

Sick of those thoughts, Miharu pivoted on the spot and slipped his bag off his shoulder. "Hibari."

The half-demon in question looked up and growled at him. "What?"

He gave a bright smile. Maybe this is it. "Carry this for me."

"Carry it yourself," he scoffed, moving to leap up into the branches of the trees. "I'm not your personal slave. If you weren't the key to the Shikon Jewel and Mukuro's death, I wouldn't even--"

"Sit, boy." Maybe this is the reason. Things I can't have at home-- but I was fine at home. I didn't care. I don't care.

The resounding yell and slam brought the others running ahead, and they slipped through the trees to find the familiar scene of Hibari face-down in a crater, with Miharu's bag balanced carefully on his head. They sped up to catch Miharu, already walking away and heading into the next, denser area of the forest.

"Nyaha, we're not going to wait for the idiot mutt to get up?" asked Lambo, jumping up into Miharu's arms.

"Nope."

Yamamoto slung an arm around the tiny boy's shoulders and laughed. "Haha, Miharu-chan is being vicious today~" Raimei rolled her eyes with a sigh.

"You'd think Hibari would have learnt by now that Miharu's always serious about what he says." She linked arms with him and grinned. "So, are we training today? You could use some practice with that bow of yours, and Hibird and I are always up for some dodging rounds!"

Miharu shrugged. "Whatever. Hibari's always good for target practice." He calmly ignored the slice that he felt rush over his head, and blew away the few cut strands of hair that fell as a result. Without so much as looking back, he ordered, "Sit, boy." The bark of surprise and crack of the ground splitting under the force of Hibari's fall made him smirk.

"... Uh." Raimei tapped Miharu's shoulder awkwardly, twisting to look over her shoulder at something. "Miharu, I think Hibari was doing that to--"

"-- To attack the very large demon behind us? Yeah, I know." He kept walking with Lambo in his arms, calling over his shoulder as he edged through the thickening trees, "It has a Shikon Shard, by the way."

Hibari was up before Miharu even had time to blink.

"Just keep going, and take the cow brat with you," he snapped, drawing his Tetsaiga already. "You'll only get in my way." And he leapt at the demon without so much as waiting for a response.

He didn't need to, anyway. Miharu shrugged and kept walking. It doesn't matter. It's routine now.
