You can use Apple's speech synthesizer to create audio files that you can put on your iPod. Make your own "audio books" from downloadable free e-texts of books. Create sound files saying every track in a playlist, so you can get a DJ on your iPod. The creation of the sound files is much faster than the listening time (eg: 50 seconds to create an audio file that took 7 minutes to listen to).

(Note: In order to launch this PowerPC-era script on an modern machine, it must first be opened and then saved using Script Editor which is located in your /Applications/Utilities/ folder. More information is here.)
