I have marked my journal as no adult content, unless otherwise specified. Please to not be reporting me for minor failures to notify you of such. Not that I normally post items of that nature, but I could go insane one day. Why yes, I've gone insane, why do you ask?

after some years of the same old sticky, here's a few houskeeping items:

podfic? go for it, no need to get permission in advance, though I would love to have a heads up to the finished product which I will likely also store on my website.

the fic tags are intermittent at best, methinks... the best way is to go to the website, and barring that, I'm at AO3, too.

Sadly, despite my best intentions, wips are wips, and all traffic is stalled at the intersection due to a 90 car pileup in the neurons. until it isn't, though you shouldn't hold your breath.

Well, I think I have found a way to actually reply to posts on LJ. The fix involved the gift of an iPad when a friend upgraded to the iPad. Wasn't crazy about Safari, so I installed Atomic browser, and so far, so good. Still trying to wrap my old brain around the Apple state of mind, I feel like a noob. As I am a noob, it makes sense. The last attempt i made at Apple was in 2001, and I just didn't see the attraction. It ended up going to the electronic recycling center after it sat around wasting space for 9 years. I think I turned it on 4 times ans stares at the blank screen. This device is already well ahead of that pitiful curve, I surf the web, play sudoku and follow twitter on it. Hah, take that LJ!! not sure I will ever find it as irreplaceable as my friend thinks they are, but it is at least useable. :)

so, my sister asked for afghans to raffle off for the Relay for Life, and I complied.

these are pretty simple, though I loathe sewing the ends in, ya gotta put a stripe in to give it a bit of visual interest. they're pretty big, they fit nicely on top of a queen size bed. the second one is definitely purple/amethyst, tho it looks more blue in the pictures.

this one took a bit of calculating the stripe order, and how how many repetitions to get it to a reasonable size. the stitch is larkspur, hence the name 'neon larkspur'. Except I kept replacing that with hummingbird, though it's more like sun conure colors....

also, someday I will figure out the color correction for fluorescent light on the camera.

things that make me ridiculously happy:

BoyUnit wrote fanfiction for his final paper in World lit! CASE FILE: X-36152. The X-Files, gen.

threnodyjones's glass heart, and bluflamingo's blue dragon: Thank you!

Other than that, I have been lurking and working on some afghans for the Relay for Life raffle. Also, I've relented and set up Chrome for actual usage, so I can freakin' leave a comment in LJ. Sad that I have to have an entire browser set up to effectively use a single site. Now I have to remember to use it.

boosting the signal: there's a way to get those bookmarks, still

thanks to brownbetty and mercurtin:

It's a Windows fix
edit your hosts file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc) open with notepad, do not save as .txt
and add these entries:
98.139.50.166 www.delicious.com
76.13.6.190 secure.delicious.com
76.13.6.209 static.delicious.com

Flush your cache or reboot. It took me 2 reboots on 7 ultimate

type in the browser address as www.delicious,com, no http://, you're relying on your host file to resolve that address not your internet provider.

You should get the OLD delicious, login and go to setting --> export.

I got both the sga_newsletter and my personal accounts backup file in mere seconds.

If I had realized that they were going to fuck Delicious up beyond all possible imagining, I'd have blown that popsicle stand months ago.

been doing a bit of home improvement. had the roof replaced, which is a relief. It needed new decking on more than 50% and the roofer gave it to me for absolute cost, as he'd originally estimated maybe replacing 3 sheets...

ION: I have a new 'grandchild'. After various cats, dogs, rats, reptiles, and parakeets, I think my son has found the love of his life; an absolutely adorable sun conure aged 8 weeks, named Icarus. (Hey, I don't name them). He is so personable, and entirely too sweet. Still has a tiny bit of white baby fluff sticking out here and there, but for the most part he has his adolescent colors, lots of green with gold and red. Those will change to adult colors in a year or two, less green and more of the others, with the possibility of blue, too. Chris had him sexed by DNA, so we know for a fact that Iccy is indeed a he. I think he bought the little guy as a 2 day old hatchling, and had to wait the 6 weeks to be weaned. Chris is having to learn a LOT of bird first aid, as there isn't an avian veterinarian in the entire state. I think this is good for the kid, he's always wanted a bird, since he was a toddler, and was fascinated by my sister & mother's flocks. I suspect that Chris' singlet birdie will not remain that way.

I just realized what was wrong with Elizabeth Weir.

She did not have a pair of funky high-heeled boots. I think if she'd had a pair of patent leather, over the knee/thigh high and 6 in spiked heel boots, she would have been a lot more successful.

/sarcasm, should it not be apparent. :)

I went to see the oncologist this am, and was promptly sent home, as my counts have dropped to an all low. I may as well have mineral water flowing through my veins and arteries! I'm re-scheduled for June 02, which suits me fine, as that works great with my Riverfest schedule, and vacation to boot. Heh, it might take all freaking summer to get through the last 2 treatments!

Got a bunch of things done around the house this weekend in preparation for my sister to stay for the next 2 weeks. The city very helpfully put up a sodium security light in my front yard, and it is bright enough that the blinds no longer suffice. We all had various bits of paper/sheets/paper towels taped over the blinds so it didn't shine right in our eyes all night. (/PWT) I installed blackout curtains in all the front facing bedrooms. Got the guest room cleaned, washed walls, got the outlets/switch plates installed in 4 rooms, replaced a few cruddy floorboards in the dining room, new light fixtures in 2 rooms, repaired a lamp, got a bunch of stuff ready for neighborhood pickup next week, and on and on. Fortunately Boy/Girl Unit have been very helpful. Still left: sweep again, mop, hang the last 2 curtains, and wash the sofa covers. Whew. I suppose it is good that guests come every now and then, so these things get done....

so the news is still guardedly optimistic.

two more rounds of chemo and and a PET scan to confirm, then we're done & crossing our fingers. Apparently we've reached the point of diminishing returns (yesterday was round 11). There was only one spot left after surgery, and it has been responding to treatment. At best it is done, over with. finito. At worst, I get a 6 month break before we start all over again. yay?

The franchise was on life support, and gasping away while we hoped for resuscitation. So, no Stargate movies, the franchise is completely dead. I'd like to give a shoutout to the asshats that made that happen, eh? Was idly thinking about this on Saturday, and though there are a lot of people that blame SGU, just recall that there were a lot of people that said the same thing about Atlantis, especially after The Return. More that said Season 6 was the end, and others that blame RDA's departure. They are all true, for various values of perspective.

There's an SG1 marathon going on upstairs this week. I might just get in on that action.

but it is still not the exact answer I am looking for.

According to the pet scan on 01Apr, there is one area that is abnormally reactive to the radioactive glucose, and so I was off to chemo #10 today. No discussion of the number of treatments left, we are going to keep it up until A) I can't take it any more, B) It is all gone. I think B is a much closer option than it was in December prior to surgery, so it was definitely worth it.

The oncholysis seems to be retreating and my nails appear to be sticking to the nail bed, my hair is falling out slowly, and for the most part I am tolerating the chemo even though we are proceeding with a low white blood count of 2.73. (The lowest where we went ahead with chemo was 2.66). prescription insurance snafu all smoothed over. Other insurance is in progress, and primary insurance denied a 6,000$ bill, so that is under review.

Work is crazy, and I am thrilled to have too many projects going on outside of that. Working on a massive podfic, finishing one story in progress & starting another, making yarn goods. I am on to granny square lap blankets for new patient intake kits, just a bottled drink, small snack and a blanket (the chemo rooms are freezing all the time). Usually new patients are sent over from the oncologist immediately, and are totally freaked, bewildered and upset, so this is a little kit to get them through the first day, and hopefully give them a little morale boost. I may have put a bug in the ear of today's neighbor to do something similar, she left all fired up about making knitted afghans for new patient intake... :)

Beyond that, I have nothing to report. just mainly keeping my nose to the grind stone and taking every day as it comes. Today's homily : SMILE: It will make people wonder what you've been up to...
