Plan Your Trip

Travel

Guests fly into the Juneau, Alaska airport. If you aren’t able to find a flight schedule that works, consider flying a day early, staying overnight in Seattle and arriving in Juneau on Sunday morning.

On Sunday afternoon, we will meet you near the Juneau airport and transport you and your luggage via bus and catamaran to the lodge. The catamaran trip is about 2 hours.

On Saturday, we will transport you back to the airport via catamaran and bus. If you want to spend some time in Juneau, consider coming early so you don’t have to worry about keeping your fish frozen.

Sunday Arrival

  • Doc Warner’s guests make their own arrangements to fly to Juneau. Since you book your own flights, you can come in early or just in time.
  • Guest check-in is between 1:00-2:30pm on Sunday. The bus leaves just after 2:30 so make sure your flight arrives no later than 2:00pm.
  • Check-in is at the Fed-ex building just east of the airport. See the map.
  • At check-in, you will be given tags to tag your luggage so our staff can deliver it to your building at the lodge.
  • If you have made purchases in Juneau, we can tag those too.
  • Consider booking early as flights sell out fast!
  • Contact Mark at 907-723-6000 if your flight is delayed.

Saturday Departure

  • Saturday morning the catamaran will transport you back to the Juneau airport with your luggage and fish.
  • Please do not book a return flight before 12:00 noon on Saturday.
  • You will take your fish home as checked luggage in airline approved fish boxes.
  • If you are staying overnight, check with your hotel for fish storage options. Depending on your flight time, the airport also has a fish freezer.
  • You will be responsible for any fees associated with your checked luggage, including your fish boxes.

Boat & Dock Operation
  • Boat Curfew: Evening boat curfew varies due to daylight hours and will be posted in the lodge. Friday’s curfew is 5:00pm so we can get your fish processed before your departure on Saturday.
  • Dock Hours: Early in the season, the dock opens at 5:30am. As daylight diminishes, fishing starts later. Current hours are posted in the lodge.
  • Starting the Engine: To avoid serious damage to the engine, the propeller of the engine must be in the water BEFORE the motor is started.
  • Engine Help: If you have problems with line or rope in your propeller, or the motor begins making strange noises, turn off the motor immediately and call or text Mark (907) 723-6000. DO NOT LIMP BACK TO THE DOCK.
  • Radios:  Radios are on each boat. Ask us to train you on their use.
  • Pulling the Anchor: ALWAYS tie the anchor rope to the FRONT DRIVER’S SIDE cleat on the boat when pulling your anchor.  Keep the rope away from the motor during the process so it doesn’t tangle or get cut by the propeller.
  • Stuck Anchor: If your anchor is stuck on the bottom, try pulling it in several different directions with the boat. If that doesn’t work, call Mark for more instructions. (907) 723-6000. Don’t cut the rope. Untie the rope from the boat and secure the orange ball to the anchor line so it won’t slide off. Record the coordinates of the anchor and we will attempt to come and retrieve the anchor.
  • Bilge Care: Bilge pumps are easily broken by debris like sunflower seeds/shells, paper, fishing line clippings, and other garbage thrown on the floor. Please use your lunch bucket as a garbage receptacle.
  • Boat Seat Safety: Leaning back or reclining heavily against the seat back while traveling may cause it to break.
  • Beaching Boats: Please do NOT take boats to shore Severe damage can occur to the boat and engine. You are responsible for any damage.
  • Boat Registration & Safety Equipment: Coast Guard required safety equipment and a copy of the boat registration are found in the orange container on each boat. Use the flares or fire extinguishers only in case of emergency.
  • Life Jackets: Alaska State and Federal laws require all children age 13 and younger wear life jackets when on an open or not in an enclosed cabin.  Please see staff for youth life jackets.
  • Safety Boats: Safety boats are available to provide photography, mechanical help, anchor issues, and salmon fishing tips. Help with Halibut can only be given at the lodge.
  • Biting Flies: Biting flies are attracted by the smell of blood. Use your bail bucket to rinse blood off before it dries. Use the bilge pump to remove excess water.

Fishing
  • Identifying Fish: When in doubt, throw it out. Take a picture first and we can help you identify it when you get back to the lodge. Please refer to the regulation booklet or the boat book for additional help.
  • Tide Table Apps
