What to Expect at Your First Visit
Attending a dental specialist’s office for the first time can be intimidating, especially if the patient is unsure what the appointment will involve. At DOCS, we strive to ensure that all patients feel comfortable asking questions and are cared for at every step. Below, we’ve outlined a basic step-by-step walkthrough of what to expect during the first appointment at DOCS.

Getting Checked In
For a patient’s first visit, they are greeted by one of our administrative staff and asked to sit in our waiting area. The clinical assistant will get them and take any X-rays needed for the assessment. After, the patient is brought into the operatory.
arrow linkConsultation and Review
The assistant will start the consultation by reviewing the patient’s medical history and confirming why they were referred to our office. Then, the assistant will review the explanation of the treatment they were sent here for. Once that is completed, the assistant will go to the doctor to join the appointment.

The doctor will perform an intra-oral exam, review the x-rays, confirm that treatment is required, review the treatment plan with the patient, and answer any questions they may have. This part of the appointment is important for the patient to get as much information about the treatment plan as possible to feel more at ease.

The patient is then brought to the receptionist and given an estimate for the proposed treatment. The estimate is then submitted to their insurance company, and, depending on the treatment plan, the patient can schedule the next appointment(s).
