DNS Inspector version 1.4.3
Updated At: 2026-06-11
Changes: Version History Thanks for using DNS Inspector! • Added a Polish translation thanks to a generous contribution from a user. DNS Inspector accepts community translations for any language, if you're interested in helping out check out our Github page and open an issue - we'll be happy to explain the process. • The app will now automatically switch to an available language (if we have a translation for it) based on your device's language. This can be turned off and a specific language used. • Fixed an issue where even after selecting a different language, the app would still be in English. 1.4.3 May 22 • This update fixes an issue where users encountered errors performing DNS queries. Thank you to all the users who reached out to me and assisted with solving this tricky bug! --- Version 1.4.0: • Based on user feedback, we've made some changes to new query view. These changes should help make things feel less cramped, and help users start making queries quickly. • We've added support for using your device's configured DNS resolver for queries. • We've added support for DNSSEC authentication of NXDOMAIN responses with NSEC and NSEC3 records. • Authority records are now displayed if they are included in the response. • We added an option to change if binary data is displayed as hex or as base64. • We fixed a crash resulting from creating a saved server without a name. • We fixed a crash resulting from deleting all saved servers. You must have at least one saved server, but it does not need to be from the servers included by default. • We fixed a bug where changing the app language had no effect. • We fixed a bug where the request duration incorrectly labelled milliseconds as microseconds. 1.4.2 Apr 22 This update addresses feedback from the previous update. Thank you to all the users who reached out to me. --- Version 1.4.0: • Based on user feedback, we've made some changes to new query view. We've got a lot of new things to share with this update: • Based on user feedback, we've made some changes to new query view. We're considering this a partial fix as it's mutually exclusive to using a bootstrap IP address. If no addresses are defined, then HTTP/2 support can be enabled, otherwise it will always use HTTP/1.1. Some DNS over HTTPS servers only support HTTP/2 so this fix should help restore that functionality which was broken in the last update. Thank you to the user who reported this issue! You can submit feedback through the app, or by creating an issue on our Github page. • Improved error handling of WHOIS lookups when following redirects. Thanks for using DNS Inspector! 1.3.1 09/29/2025 Thanks for using DNS Inspector! Lots of new things to share with you this update: • Added DNS over QUIC support - DoQ functions just like DNS over TLS, except using QUIC (UDP). We've also added a new preset DNS over QUIC server. • Added support for DNS LOC records. LOC records represent a GPS coordinate. • Added support for specifying multiple IP addresses for saved DNS servers. DNS Inspector will try to use all of these when sending a query. • Added support for specifying one or more bootstrap IP addresses of a DNS over HTTPS server. When using a DoH server with a domain-name URL, providing a bootstrap IP increases privacy by skipping an additional DNS query. • Added support for iOS and iPadOS 26's Liquid Glass UI. • Fixed a bug where DNS TXT records over > 255B were not rendered correctly. 1.3.0 09/17/2025 Thanks for using DNS Inspector! • Fixed a crash when performing DNSSEC validation of a TLD. Thanks to the user who reported this to us! If you encounter a problem using DNS Inspector you can let me know from the "About" view of the app. 1.2.9 07/11/2025 Thanks for using DNS Inspector! • PTR queries are now much easier, plain IP addresses will automatically be converted into PTR name for you. • Fixed a bug where the IPv4 hint was shown for IPv6 hint in HTTPS records • Fixed a number of instances where text data may have been cut off • Updated WHOIS data 1.2.8 07/07/2025 Thanks for using DNS Inspector! • Added some great new app icons to pick from • Fix the add preset server view being too small on iPad • Fix the record type and server type menus from being truncated • Fix crash on WHOIS lookup for bare gTLDs • Fix crash while trying to parse certain corrupt DNS messages 1.2.7 04/25/2025 Thanks for using DNS Inspector! • Fixes DNSSEC verification for cross-zone CNAME records 1.2.6 03/28/2025 Thanks for using DNS Inspector! • Fixed a crash while looking up WHOIS information for some zones • Fixed DNSSEC validation failures for zones with multiple DS records 1.2.5 02/26/2025 Thanks for using DNS Inspector! • Fixed an issue where some zones failed DNSSEC validation Very soon we'll be celebrating DNS Inspector's 1-year anniversary. Thank you all so very much for the support and positive feedback with this project. 1.2.4 02/17/2025 Thanks for using DNS Inspector! • Adds German translation, thanks to ErminesRoper! • Replies from all WHOIS servers are now shown, rather than just the last one • Fixed a crash when authenticating a query for the root zone • Fixed DNSSEC authentication failing for some record types 1.2.3 11/08/2024 Thanks for using DNS Inspector! • Adds dark icons for iOS 18 users • Add name to preset servers for easier identification • Avoid cutting off long record values • Fixed some bugs, added some new ones to fix later 1.2.2 10/24/2024 Thanks for using DNS Inspector! • Added HTTPS record support • Fixed a bug where some WHOIS lookups would fail • Fixed a bug where some connections would incorrectly fail • Fixed a bug with signature validation of DS records 1.2.1 08/30/2024 Thanks for using DNS Inspector! • View details about DNSSEC signature validation and chain of trust • Unrecognized records or records with invalid data will display a more appropriate error while still letting you perform the inspection • Added an option to specify the connection timeout • Fixed a bug with log file retention • Removed support for specifying a hostname for a traditional DNS and DNS over TLS, you must specify an IP address. Hostnames are still supported for DNS over HTTPS. Oh, and, I also rewrote the entire back-end of the app in Swift. No big deal. 1.2.0 07/21/2024 Thanks for being part of the first users of DNS Inspector! The response to the app has been incredibly positive and I'm very happy that so many of you are finding use in the app. This update includes features that weren't ready for the first release of the app, along with the first phase of DNSSEC support. A future update will expand on these new DNSSEC features with chain trust and signature validation. • Added basic domain ownership (WHOIS) information. When looking at a DNS response, a new menu is available in the top right where you can access a basic set of WHOIS information. • Added support for start of authority (SOA), delegation signer (DS), and DNS public key (DNSKEY) record types. • Added Spanish translation, courtesy of Kevin López Brante. • Fix DNS message parsing issue when compression is used. 1.1.0 06/05/2024 1.0.0 02/29/2024
