The Proclamation Project is pleased to offer a limited number of small grants to support preachers in bivocational ministry settings.

Bivocational grants for preaching are intended for Disciples preachers who preach regularly in a local congregation and also hold employment outside the congregation they serve.

Preachers can apply for up to $500 to support their growth in preaching in a way that makes the most sense in their individual context. Grants may be used for a variety of purposes. Some examples include:

  • Registration or travel expenses for continuing education events
  • Books or other preaching resources
  • Time away from outside employment to focus on preaching
  • Personal preaching retreat for sermon planning
  • Childcare to provide time for preaching preparation
  • Meals with other preachers for support and encouragement

Applicants will be asked to explain how the funds granted will be used to support their preaching specifically. Requests for general ministry support (such as pastoral care or community outreach efforts) will not be granted.

The strongest applications will show an awareness of the preacher’s ministry context, will articulate how these funds will allow for growth or support in preaching, and will be specific in their requests. Applicants are encouraged to be creative in their requests and to ask for what they need to support their preaching ministry.
