Finished!
That is it for Rosina Vallis in 2022. All our equipment is packed away ready to go. Thanks to all our volunteers who helped make this excavation happen! We couldn’t have done it without you!
We hope you enjoyed following this dig as much we did!

This is it! The last day on site here at Rosina Vallis is upon us.
It seems like time has flown by. All that we have left to do is record trench two.
The last of our venturers are helping GPS in points that form part of our digital model of the trench.
We’re nearly there!

It may be the last day of digging but that doesn’t mean we’re not finding anything!
We’ve found even more flint in trench two. There’s some really nice examples with yet another potential core being found.
What else will we find before the end of the day?

It’s the start of the penultimate day at Rosina Vallis. The aim of today is to finish digging!
Indie is helping Huw and Roger record the final section of trench three. Once this is done trench three will be complete.
Then just trench two remains!

We are almost finished here at Rosina Vallis. There are just three days left!
This means that the final recording process is starting. Carolina and Lily are drawing the last sections in trench one.
Once they have done this trench one is complete!

What’s this in trench two?
Caroline and Kate have uncovered a patch of burning that looks like it may be a posthole.
This is definitely worthy of investigation!

Rain has stopped play again at Rosina Vallis.
We are back inside today cleaning some more finds from Lindisfarne.
Indie is also getting stuck in showing how the cleaning is done!

For most of today we haven’t really found much. That was until a few minutes ago…
We have found not one but four small finds across the space of five minutes!
Jess and Lewis take the prize for most interesting finds as they have found a flint core and another potential bit of prehistoric pottery.

So begins our last week here at Rosina Vallis.
We have a lot of new faces helping dig this week. There’s one team in trench two continuing to take the soil down and another team in trench three who are tying to find the archaeological layer.
We’re on the home stretch!

We had a visitor to site today!
David from the Portable Antiquities Scheme came for a visit to the dig. He very kindly talked to the Venturers about what it is that he does and answered their questions.
It was very informative and very kind of him to do that. It also meant a nice break from the wind and rain!
