Ming-Yang Wang is a doctoral researcher at the Chair of Digital Building Technologies at ETH Zurich. His PhD research explores on-site earth formwork systems for concrete construction, focusing on the use of local soil and autonomous excavation to reduce material waste, labor, and environmental impact. By integrating computational design, robotic fabrication, and large-scale prototyping, his work investigates how earth-based formwork can enable geometrically complex, sustainable, and efficient architectural structures.
Work Topic
Researching the application of autonomous excavators for on-site earth formwork in concrete construction, using local soil and robotic excavation to reduce waste, labor, and cost while enabling geometrically flexible, sustainable, large-scale architectural elements.
