Inspiration
Starting from our shared interest in solo traveling, we conducted 15+ interviews to learn about the topic. Our research showed that there were two clear perspectives on solo travel -- some people were very comfortable going on trips by themselves, while many others were extremely uncomfortable with the idea. With this insight in mind, we decided to narrow the scope from solo travels to solo (local) outings, to see if we could create something that could help people warm up to the idea of adventuring locally. After further development, we learned that this idea is useful in a number of scenarios, but we decided to discuss two main ones: Trying to get familiar with a new area, and trying to rediscover a familiar one.
What it does
Vizit is a mobile application used to help people develop the tourist perspective, regardless of if they are new to an area, or rediscovering a place they’ve lived all their lives. It does this by encouraging spontaneity through the gamification of participating in new local experiences.
How we built it
Vizit was conceptualized, developed, and created in Figma + Figjam.
Challenges we ran into
Since we did not all know each other before this event, we had to overcome the struggle of working with new people and adapting to their working styles. The team was also split in two different time zones with a difference of three hours
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the final prototype that we created, as we believe that Vizit is a useful tool that will help bring unexpected joy to people's everyday routine. It also brought joy and excitement to us throughout our design journey.
What we learned
We learned a lot about how to move through the design process at an accelerated speed without compromising on research and quality, as well as how to manage our time wisely given the hard constraints. We also discovered a way to balance business and user needs for a well rounded product.
What's next for Vizit
In the future, we would want to further develop more of the potential activity options, and gain a deeper understanding of the different systems necessary to create a more cohesive experience between the different features. Additionally, we think it would be nice to do some discovery in how we could make Vizit integrate seamlessly into many different kinds of routines.
