Problem Statement:
Impulse buying is a significant problem in the USA that affects the financial health and well-being of individuals. According to studies, Americans are more likely to make impulse purchases than people in other countries. This behavior is driven by a variety of factors, including social media influence, targeted advertising, and a culture that places a high value on consumerism. Impulse buying can lead to increased debt and financial stress, particularly for those who are already struggling to make ends meet. Furthermore, impulse buying can contribute to environmental issues by increasing waste and clutter. There is a need for effective interventions and tools to help Americans better manage their impulse buying behavior and improve their financial and environmental well-being.
What it does
A Chrome extension pops up whenever users visit e-commerce websites they frequently visit. The web app/extension that is linked with the user's Capital One bank accounts will show your account balance, your monthly, and yearly budget, and the goal you set up and give financial advice while you are shopping online or clicking "Add to cart" or "Buy" buttons. As a last step, users get a quiz to evaluate and self-access the necessity of the purchase.
How we built it
Formed a team of a product manager, two frontend developers, and 1 backend/full stack developer. Idealized concepts and divided tasks, collaborated using GitHub feature branches to implement code, troubleshoot, and integrate within the schedule by the deadline.
