Inspiration

Our team was inspired by the idea that we could design a program that would use only pre-existing resources in Toronto, instead of creating a product that would require further consumption of materials. Our vision is a more sustainable and affordable city where people find connections with those of other generations, abilities and experiences.

What it does

The program we created, Compassionate Neighbours, aims to facilitate safe and respectful partnerships between young students or working professionals, and elderly people, for shared housing arrangements.

How we built it

This program has been implemented as an easy-to-use website! You can view it at the following link: This website was designed to allow residents to explore various neighbourhoods in our city, as well as other interested residents who are looking for a potential roommate. It also dives deep into how this program tackles the sustainability, loneliness and affordability issues with our current housing systems.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud of the creativity of this solution, as well as the accessibility it creates for various demographics in our diverse city. Our goal was always to create something that would help stimulate equity within housing, and we feel that our proposal tackles this in a unique way.

What we learned

This team learned a lot about the many problems we still have to face with the housing in our city. There are so many factors to consider and working on a design solution that focuses equally on all the important matters was an incredible learning experience.
