Inspiration
We were inspired by the many students across the world who struggle with staying focused while studying. This was a personally related struggle too, as one of our team members has ADHD and has difficulty focusing.
What it does
By feeding your tab title to GPT, we can automatically determine the relevancy of the current tab to the task at hand. From there, we dim the tab, make it unresponsive, and display a "motivational" image.
How we built it
The application is a Chrome extension made in HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Using tools like VSCode and Github we managed to craft this extension collaboratively.
Challenges we ran into
Javascript was a new language for our team but was the most effective way to build a Chrome extension, so we were forced to learn on the spot.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Just getting the product out is a major accomplishment considering the time limit and it looks very well-polished.
What we learned
We learned a lot about working with Chrome extensions and Javascript, a first for all of us. These skills will add to our skillset for future hackathons.
What's next for Study Slap
We plan to integrate customizability for the behaviour of a blocked website.
