Inspiration

It is easy to get distracted nowadays. There are numerous forms of social media, and many video games to play, that can prevent students from getting their work done.

The Website

As such, we decided to build Study Pod, a note-taking web app that maximizes productivity and integrates AI to help students learn quickly and efficiently. Currently, Study Pod allows users to take notes for their coursework while having access to music like LoFi. Students can also share individual notes to other users, create to-do lists, seamlessly share notes between devices, and summarize each note to efficiently capture information using a natural language processing algorithm.

How we built it

The front-end was built with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and the back-end uses Python Flask. An NLP API was also used to summarize the text.

Challenges we ran into

There were some issues with processing the text for the NLP algorithm, as certain characters couldn't be inputted into the algorithm.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the overall aesthetic of the website, and how simple it is to use. Moreover, the NLP algorithm is very effective, and at times, it is difficult to tell if a machine even wrote it.

What we learned

We learned about a lot about machine learning, specifically with natural language processing. We also learned a lot about backend, and how to use color theory to make the overall product more appealing and vibrant.

What's next for Study Pod

For the future, we hope to integrate online text books and reading materials into the website. We will also increase collaboration by allowing multiple users to work on a note window, as well as extending the music playlist or possibly integrating it with Spotify.
