What it does

Psyche’s Cage is an escape room game with an underlying storyline to be discovered. The player is locked in a bedroom with clues that might help them escape. Can you piece together this complex puzzle and find your way out?

How we built it

We wanted to make a horror puzzle game and brainstormed many project ideas before eventually settling on Psyche’s Cage. Then, we combined images found on the internet along with designs we created ourselves (using Canva and Pixilart) to create graphics for the game. The game was programmed in Java using Eclipse and Github. After putting everything together, we created Psyche’s Cage!

Challenges we ran into

  • Switching between different screens (JPanels)
  • Bugs with window focusing & formatting
  • How to appropriately take in different forms of user input

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Created a functioning game
  • Making clues that create popup windows or dialogue boxes
  • Visuals of the game

What we learned

  • How to better use Java AWT Event classes
  • How to better use JFrame Layouts & graphical components

What's next for Psyche’s Cage

  • Fix the inventory window bug
  • Add sound effects for different actions
  • Add more possible endings
  • Add a hint button
