Inspiration
As international students in Canada, we live far away from our families and the daily reminders our parents used to provide. Without that external push, it becomes incredibly easy to fall into procrastination, there’s no one to tell us when to wake up, when to study, or when to sleep. We were inspired to create a solution that acts as a "digital guardian" to help students maintain self-discipline and stay on track with their daily routines.
How We Built It
Since our team is composed entirely of Business Students with zero prior coding experience, we embraced the concept of "Vibe Coding." We leveraged Google Gemini support to bridge the technical gap, focusing heavily on crafting precise prompts and utilizing our logical thinking. Through a continuous cycle of testing, feedback, and manual adjustments, we built the project step-by-step from the ground up.
Challenges Faced
Our biggest hurdle was the lack of a coding foundation. We faced a steep learning curve where the code required constant revisions and debugging to match our vision. Dealing with technical errors as non-developers was frustrating at times, but it forced us to become resourceful and persistent in finding workarounds to achieve the functionality we wanted.
What We Learned
This journey taught us that you don't need to be a Computer Science major to build something meaningful. We learned how to communicate effectively with AI through Prompt Engineering and discovered the importance of iterative testing. Most importantly, we realized that our business background provides a unique perspective on problem-solving that complements technical tools perfectly.
What's Next for Pocketmom
We will update a new function that will force people to upload the picture of doing the exact require things.
