Inspiration
In my community I noticed that alot of restaurants after 6pm or 7pm they throw away the leftover food and I taught to myself why don't I create a system that can help these restaurants and individual to connect and share food effectively reducing food wastage. That how I came up with NoWasteAm
What it does
It allows users to request for pre-existing food listing on the homepage and once the request is confirmed the food listing marked as reserved and becomes unavailable to all other users they cannot access it
How we built it
We used HTML CSS and JavaScript for the frontend and Python(Flask) for the backend
Challenges we ran into
We ran into 2 main problems a frontend problem with our form element that wasn't rendered the food form and fixed it by adding error handling to the form And a backend issue with our app.py file where the form validation failed.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud to represent my community at this competition and also build possible solutions to social problems of global concern
What we learned
I learned that when building complex systems you have to look at he bigger picture not just the code to better understand the problem and then use code as a tool for building.
What's next for NoWasteAm
Next, we want to expand to more cities, integrate smart tech for tracking surplus, and partner with businesses to make zero waste a reality everywhere. Our vision is a world where nothing valuable is thrown away, and everyone benefits from what would otherwise go to waste.
