Inspiration

Having family members who didn't get the right Health Insurance coverage inspired us to learn more about Health Insurance plans and make an expert system to help others with the same problem.

What it does

Insurifit is an expert Health Insurance plan recommender system that chooses the best plan for you. It takes over 10 complex factors into account to outperform human reasoning capabilities like:

Premium-(How much you pay per month) Deductible-(How much you should pay at the hospital before the insurance kicks in) Copay Coinsurance Plan Type- HMO, EPO, POS, PPO, HDHP, medicare, Plan Tier- Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Catastrophe, Eligible for the Affordable care act Subsidy, Are the in-network clinics and pharmacies close by, Special Benefits- Specialist Drugs, Preventative Care.

How we built it

We first performed extensive research on Health Insurance Plans and what makes a good plan.

We then used our knowledge of s(CASP) which we gained from the two workshops (Thank you Prof. Gupta) to represent our domain knowledge as facts and predicates. We then performed intensive testing to make sure it works well.

Challenges we ran into

We faced multiple hurdles like learning about the nuances and exceptions to the rule when it comes to health insurance that may seem counter-intuitive (Like catastrophy insurance eligibility and ACA subsidies). Additionally we faced challenges coding up the project but rewatching the workshop video and taking help from the mentors on discord helped us cross the finish line.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our program is super useful to anyone here in the USA who is looking for a good health insurance plan to cover their needs. We also now know so much more about Health Insurance plans, which'll help us in our lives.

What's next for INSURIFIT

We will be expanding our set of predicates and introduce more grounds for reasoning in the coming weeks and set up a frontend to turn this program into a full fledged web application.
