Inspiration

As students, we live very busy lives. Often our schedules are packed with school work, extracurriculars and personal events and activities. This causes the need to keep track of all our tasks at hand, whether it is by using a calendar or some form of reminders app. But this often leads to us fumbling around to find the right app or tab whenever we need to see our schedule. This is where InstaCal comes in.

What it does

INSTACAL provides an easy way to access Google Calendar through a chrome extension. When using the extension, users can see the events scheduled for the day, add events and go to the Google Calendar site.

How we built it

We used Figma, HTML and CSS to design and implement the UI. Through the use of Node.js and the Google Calendar API, we were able to implement the interactions between the extensions and the calendar.

Challenges we ran into

The challenges we faced were the integration of the calendar and having 1 less member. The integration of the calendar provided some challenges because we were not too familiar with the API and it was quite challenging to learn within 24 hours. The other challenge was that we were a team of 3, which provided us with less manpower to work on the project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have been able to create a mock up for our idea, as well as to have worked well as a group, despite some of us never working with one another prior to this.

What we learned

We learned how to create a Google Chrome extension, as well as the steps needed to plan and propose our product idea.

What's next for INSTACAL

InstaCal currently only shows daily schedules and reminders. We plan on allowing users to see their weekly and monthly schedules in the future.
