This project was inspired by making traditional small apartments, non traditional and more affordable. We were inspired by how bees live in their small hives yet have so much room in their colony and honey,so we thought why not implement this design as a passive garden house.

This design combines three existing solutions, garden houses, Passive Houses, and Hivehaus. It is a green method to have extra housing without causing any pollution like traditional buildings do. It provides an affordable living space for whoever needs it. It is prefabricated and takes only three months to assemble in the owners backyard or rooftop. Although it is an affordable and sustainable solution, it comes with its challenges. Some of those challenges are governmental funding and financial support, and people’s acceptance of it being in their living space and actually implementing it.

This project was achievable within 10 hours, due to some complications, with all our research and work ready to be presented, despite being in different time zones. We are specifically proud of the idea because it can be implemented on even wider scales. We learned about so many new materials as we worked and new technologies. And a valuable lesson here is if we were able to think of affordable and sustainable solutions for housing in less that 12 hours, then how much more can we do with more time, to help our environment and save it.

For the future, we hope this design fits the expectations of the judges, and is actually considered as a method to make use of space and having green housing in the GTA.. We believe this design can help resolve the housing issues facing Canada, and meets the needs of the citizens.
