Inspiration

Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time, and we believe constellation's metagraph technology can offer innovative solutions to promote sustainability. Environet was inspired by the need to incentivize individuals and businesses to take part in green energy initiatives. We wanted to create a decentralized platform where participants can track their carbon footprints, reduce emissions, and get rewarded for their contribution to sustainability. By leveraging Constellation's infrastructure and the power of decentralized data, Environet bridges the gap between blockchain technology and environmental action.

What it does

Environet is a Green Energy Participation Metagraph that rewards individuals and businesses for engaging in environmentally friendly activities. It aggregates data from various sources, such as GreenEnergyPlatform, CarbonFootprintCalculator, and InvestmentPlatform, while also allowing manual submissions. Participants can earn rewards for actions like reducing their carbon footprints, using renewable energy sources, and investing in green technologies. The platform tracks these activities and validates them via wallet addresses stored in the registered_wallets.txt file. Automatic and manual data fetching ensures the metagraph remains updated with participants' sustainability contributions.

How we built it

We built Environet using the following technologies:

  • Constellation Network: The metagraph infrastructure leverages Constellation’s L0 layer for fast and scalable data validation.
  • Scala: The core logic of the metagraph is written in Scala, enabling us to handle blockchain-specific operations. -Lifecycle data functions

The system comprises various data sources (GreenEnergyPlatform, CarbonFootprintCalculator, InvestmentPlatform), periodic data fetching processes using workers, and manual submission options for users. Participants are rewarded based on their contribution, tracked through the registered_wallets.txt files, storing wallet addresses linked to green energy activities.

Challenges we ran into

As we're just learning about the constellation Metagraph, and not famimiliar with the scala language, we're taking it one at a time to build out our Metagraph. One of the significant challenges was integrating multiple data sources and validating the authenticity of green energy activities. Ensuring that users could fetch data automatically while also allowing for manual submissions required careful architectural planning.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We learnt a lot about the constellation hypergraph and metagraph architectures and were able to get out project started.

What we learned

Throughout the project, we deepened our understanding of constellation network ecosystem, particularly in terms of metagraph architecture and development using the Euclid SDK. Working with the Constellation Network helped us appreciate the scalability and security that DAG offers for data validation.

We also learned the importance of data integrity when collecting information from various sources and ensuring that users' contributions to sustainability are accurately recorded and rewarded.

What's next for EnviroNet

We have big plans for Environet:

  • Complete the building of Environet Metagraph: We plan to continue to learn about constellation network architecture and metagraph development and hopefully complete the Environet Metagraph development.
  • Expand the reward system: We plan to introduce metagraph tokens to represent the carbon credits or offsets earned by participants. These tokens will be tradable and can be used to support further sustainability initiatives.
  • Partner with green energy companies: We aim to collaborate with renewable energy providers, sustainable businesses, and environmental organizations to broaden the scope of Environet’s data sources and reward system.
  • Enhance real-time data collection: We’ll integrate more IoT devices to validate energy consumption and carbon footprint data directly from real-world sensors, making Environet a comprehensive solution for green energy tracking.
  • Develop a mobile app: We plan to turn Environet into a Progressive Web App (PWA) for wider accessibility, allowing users to track their sustainability efforts and rewards on the go.
