Inspiration
According to market research firm The NPD Group, due to stay-at-home shelter in place orders, video game sales to a record $56.9 billion in 2020, a 27% increase over the previous year.Jun 29, 2021. This makes sense because people are spending too much time alone indoors during covid meant a lot of time to play games. Covid Capture is an example of a game that anyone with a webcam can play.
I was concerned because people were not wearing facemasks during Covid due to fake news spreading like for instance a lie about how face masks were dangerous for childern (not true!).
What it does
The objective of COVID CAPTURE is to wear a light blue mask on the blue line and try to CAPTURE all the falling red squares with it. If you succeed the red squares will turn green and you score points. If you fail the score resets to zero. The idea is you will get sick if you do not capture all the germs with your mask.
Use your webcam to play free online games using only your body as the controller. This is super interactive and accessible because it is a single player game and the only controller you need is your body and a webcam.
How we built it
This is a web game built with HTML, CSS, Javascript (Tensorflow.js). The “new” concept in the game is is the use of webcam as a new interpretations or combinations of old concepts and the computer Vision model Binary Classification for mask on and mask off
Challenges we ran into
Connecting with Webcam Mirroring the Images and where to put the blue line (css bottom align) and squares (random) Accidentally labeled the mask on mask off to form a inverse relationship
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It's actually pretty fun
What we learned
Learned a lot
