Inspiration

As college students, computer work takes up large portions of our days, but we aren't mindful of the strain daily usage causes on our backs. We wanted to create a device that allows us to take notice of our computer posture, and adjust it accordingly to prevent permanent strain on our backs.

What it does

Our device detects bad posture through the user camera, and alerts them with beeps when their posture is hunched. The device also showcases data to the user such as the average amount of time without slouching, and also the time since the last slouch so the user can take notice of the device feedback to learn how to improve maintaining proper posture over a long period of computer usage.

How we built it

Our device uses Python Computer Vision, combined with HTML to display the device on a website

Challenges we ran into

We struggled with getting an integrated python virtual environment so that it works with HTML

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This was our first hackathon as college freshmen, so we are excited to have finished our first hackathon project submission

What we learned

We learned how to use multiple IDE tools, along with to combine different programming languages, GitHub, and how to plan and execute a project in 24 hours
