Inspiration
We love to create random chaos games that are easy to learn but hard to master and as much competitive as funny and energetic. We believe that physical movement and interaction with XR objects make the whole experience more believable and immersive. We wanted to use the whole set of superpowers of Meta Presence to create a game that will help players have fun, move, and laugh together.
What it does
Colocated or remote players join the game Each player gets a cannon and a brick wall behind them
The goal is to shoot the cannon and destroy the opponent's wall. But wait, what are we loading the gun with? Here comes Harold -- the AI-powered Game host who decides what random stuff he's gonna throw into the player's room. Harold is pretty funny, announcing and commenting on different game events. The players need to grab those items and load them into the cannon. Then aim and shoot. Players can shoot while aiming, which requires both hands. All the regular objects that are thrown into the room cause 1 damage to the wall, except one: the CHICKEN! When Harold goes bonkers he throws in a few chickens and players can chase and catch them and load them into the cannon. The chicken causes a massive damage to the wall and a few precise shots can make the game!
How we built it
We gather all our knowledge of the Meta Presence platform, added in hand tracking and physical interactions, passthrough and multiplayer. We created a beautiful highly detailed cannon and a ton of different objects, and of course, the silliest chicken we could possibly get. We added Gemini AI for Harold and used Meta Voice SDK to get him to talk. We promise to switch it to Meta AI when the API becomes available! We added juicy impact and flight sounds and made sure they stay funny and random. We tweaked physics and interactions to make the object grabbing and flying and impact as realistic as possible.
Challenges we ran into
Colocation is (as always) was a bit problematic and depth component wasn't trivial but with great help from mentors we aced that as well.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very happy we were able to combine all the separate parts so well together and build a game that is really fun to play, that brings smile to players' faces and gets them to move a little.
What we learned
Sometimes technology can be faster than light, but dreams are even faster!
What's next for CHICKEN'D
We are ABSOLUTELY going to finish the game and release it on Labs ASAP. We want to add tournament and leaderboard options, we want to add 3D AI models generation so players can fill their rooms with a ton of absolute randomness and we want to improve the physics and the shooting mechanics. We want to add more game modes and introduce remote-colocated 2x2 game mode.
