Inspiration

• 10% of global emissions of from the fashion industry • 20% of water usage comes from the fashion industry • Only 12% of clothing is recycled whilst the rest ends up in landfills (majority of which doesn't degrade) • Many major fashion brands (H&M, Nike, Uniqlo to name a few) still use sweatshops and/or child labor with terrible work conditions

And this was only a very small selection of the clear issues with the current fashion industry, so we sought out a solution. One of the best ways to avoid this mess without spending a fortune on ethical clothing brands is to buy second-hand. Second-hand clothing is cheaper, more sustainable, and more ethical. But despite this, only 8% buy second-hand. So we decided to create an app to promote and make it easy to buy second-hand clothing.

What it does

So we created CarbonClothes to promote people to buy more second-hand clothing. Similar to sites like Depop and vinted, this allows users to buy and sell clothing between each other.

But the main difference is, users can take photos of clothing and it'll immediately come up with similar products on our store. So you could walk into your local H&M, take a photo of a product you really like, and we'll immediately match you with similar, cheaper, and more sustainable second-hand products.

And not only that, but we'll show a figure of the amount of carbon you have saved by buying second-hand.
