Inspiration
After reading many testimonials from people who have struggled with mental health, we realized that not enough people are talking about those struggles. Not many people are aware of how many go through these experiences, and Brighter Days Ahead aims to fix that.
What it does
Brighter Days Ahead is a website made to spread awareness about mental health struggles and help those who need it. It provides links to websites for mental health and also gives testimonials from others who have experienced similar struggles. One of the core features is its Aid Association survey, which aims to tell users what they might be struggling with based off of a number of experiences the user might have had.
How we built it
We built the website through Visual Studio Code, using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. We used charts and links to mental health websites to provide practical usage.
Challenges we ran into
While we were making the survey, it took lots of effort to make the output have a reasonable answer for what the user might struggle with. There were multiple errors throughout the process of creating the survey.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It took a long time, but we managed to get the survey working properly. It had reasonable outputs based off of user experiences and was effective at providing the user with an overview of what they might be struggling with. It also provides links to websites that help the user learn more.
What we learned
We learned that mental health struggles are much more prominent throughout people than we thought before. Spreading awareness is one of the best ways to prevent suicide, as one of the main causes is the feeling of isolation.
What's next for Brighter Days Ahead
We believe that the next step is expansion. By making Brighter Days Ahead more well known, we can make more people aware of mental health struggles. The more people that reach out, the more people we can help through mental health struggles.
