🌟 Inspiration
We wanted to make a mobile version of the card game “We’re Not Really Strangers: Couples Edition” as a way for long-distance couples to stay connected to each other a little bit each day.
💖 What It Does
The main feature of the app is that both individuals in a couple receive one short, relationship-centered daily question they have to answer. Examples include: “What assumption did you make about me that turned out to be false?” or “The hardest thing for me to reveal about myself to you was ___.” Both partners can see each other’s responses — creating a fun, meaningful way to connect every day. Each consecutive day they both answer the question, their streak grows a flower 🌸 that symbolizes their relationship growth.
🛠️ How We Built It
• Frontend: React Native + TypeScript
• Backend: Express.js + Supabase
• Design: Figma
⚙️ Challenges We Ran Into
Connecting the frontend and backend was tricky, especially when syncing real-time updates. We also started with too many ideas for the limited hackathon timeframe — learning the importance of focus and scope management.
🏆 Accomplishments We’re Proud Of
• Clean, aesthetic UI/UX
• Successfully integrated a complex database schema
• Built something meaningful for couples 💑
📚 What We Learned
• React Native fundamentals
• Backend + Database integration
• Better project planning and teamwork under time pressure
🌱 What’s Next for Bloom
We plan to use an LLM (like Ollama) to generate new, personalized daily questions inspired by the We’re Not Really Strangers card game.
