Inspiration
During online learning, it was difficult to get in person experiences. For many students and schools, learning at in-person laboratory was impossible. Covid-19 restricted what we could do, thus limiting many opportunities. This project provides an unique experience and allows greater accesibility to the underprivileged. It reinforces difficult concepts in a fun and easy way.
What it does
Through virtual reality, it educates students on various different lab tools. It provides them with a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn and have fun.
How we built it
Using the Unity game engine and its XR/VR features we were able to make this project. We made 3d objects using blender and posters using adobe illustrator.
Challenges we ran into
There were a lot of connection issue with the headset and the engine which were difficult to fix. Dealing with a virtual reality headset was difficult. But we did not give up and prevailed through various challenges.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Besides achieving our goals, we learned coding and strengthed our learning skills. We learned how to work effectively in a team, providing support to others. Furthermore
What we learned
We learned the ins and outs of Unity's VR system, 3d models, programming in C# and Adobe Illustrator in addition to various soft skills, including but not limited to teamwork, leadership and time management skills.
What's next for The Immersive Lab
If the project were to continue the next steps would be adding chemical reactions and other labs to the experience. We'd also like to add various other immersive areas, like construction (ie, wood working), disections, etc.
