GDG Algiers & WTM Algiers are dedicated to providing a pleasing experience for everyone : trainers, sponsors, organizers and attendees. Our organizers are committed to making conferences, workshops, hackathons and all associated activities productive and enjoyable for all.

 

This code of conduct applies to all DevFest Algiers spaces, online and offline. Anyone who violates this code of conduct may be sanctioned or expelled from all of our activities.

Some spaces may have additional rules in place, which will be clearly made available to everyone.

 

We expect everyone to follow these rules on all event spaces, event-related online interactions, and on transportation provided by the event.

Participants violating these rules may be asked to leave the hackathon at the sole discretion of the organizers. Thank you for helping make this a welcoming, friendly place for all.

 

  • We believe that every single person has the right to learn new things, share experiences , grow their network and have fun in a safe and inclusive environment.

  • GDG Algiers & WTM Algiers prioritize the safety of marginalized people over the comfort of privileged people. 

  • Be Open We welcome attendees from all backgrounds. This event is about increasing the overall amount of learning, partnership, and engagement in the developer community.

  • Be respectful and behave professionally. If you find yourself in a situation that makes you uncomfortable at our events, if interacting with one of our representatives or event organizers makes you uncomfortable, please report it by using the procedures included in this document.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • offensive verbal or written comments related to expression, disability, mental illness, physical appearance, body size, age.

  • Intrusive comments about a person's lifestyle choices and practices, including those related to diet, health, parenting and employment.

  • Threats of violence.

  • Deliberate intimidation.

  • Track or follow.

  • Photography is encouraged, but other participants must be given a reasonable chance to opt out from being photographed. If they object to the taking of their photograph, comply with their request. It is inappropriate to take photographs in contexts where people have a reasonable expectation of privacy 

  • Constant disruption of discussion.

  • Inappropriate social communication patterns, such as asking/assuming inappropriate levels of intimacy with others.

  • Continued communication One-To-One after request to cease.

  • The intentional "walking out" of any aspect of a person's identity without their consent except as necessary to protect vulnerable persons from intentional abuse.

  • Post non-harassing private communications.

 

  • If participants wish to share images of the speaker on social media, we highly recommend obtaining the speaker's permission first. Participants can also share the contents of conversations/slides via social media unless speakers request that specific details/slides not be shared.

 

For in-person and Hackathon participants, you are advised to follow these rules:

  • Leaving the hackerspace without asking for permission is prohibited. Each participant is responsible for his own actions, asking organizers for permission to leave is the best way to do so.

  • No food/drink is allowed in the hackerspace, we have specific times of dinner, launch and pauses.

  • Bring only your main personal belongings and avoid bringing a lot of baggage.

  • Avoid bringing valuables (large amounts of money, gold,..). We will not be held responsible for their loss

  • It is absolutely not allowed to leave the space after 8 pm

  • Not to cause any kind of damage in the place (tables, chairs, equipment, doors, ...) and report every possible problem and damage to the team of organizers and also try to keep the space clean as much as possible.

  • Participants must respect the maximum limit in the workshop rooms and not disturb the trainers and workshop participants

  • Everyone who has confirmed their participation in the Hackathon must agree that he/she will be at the venue from Thursday 18th November at 5pm until Saturday 20th November at 7pm 

  • We cannot promise to provide transportation for everyone, so everyone is invited to ensure their own transportation

  • Respecting the sanitary protocol

  • For precautionary measures, every one must provide us with a copy of his/her ID card 

 

Please contact us using the reporting procedures outlined below. We are happy to help participants contact venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise help feel safe for the duration of the events. We appreciate your attendance and want you to enjoy your experience at our events and in our community.



Contact us to report an incident:

 

  • If someone makes you or anyone else feel unsafe or unwelcome, please report it as soon as possible. [DevFest Algiers organizers can be identified by t-shirts/special badges] 

 

  • If you are being harassed by anyone at the venue of the event, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact the Organizer team whose contacts you can find in the section of Contacts

 

  • In order to protect volunteers from abuse and burnout, we reserve the right to reject any report we believe to have been made in bad faith. Reports intended to silence legitimate criticism may be deleted without response.

 

When taking a personal report, our members will ensure you are safe and cannot be overheard. They may involve other event organizers to ensure your report is managed properly. Once safe, we'll ask you to tell us about what happened. This can be upsetting, but we'll handle it as respectfully as possible, and you can bring someone to support you. You won't be asked to confront anyone and we will preserve your anonymity.

 

We will respect confidentiality requests for the purpose of protecting victims of abuse. At our discretion, we may publicly name a person about whom we’ve received harassment complaints, or privately warn third parties about them, if we believe that doing so will increase the safety of DevFest Algiers organizers, attendees or the general public. We will not name harassment victims without their affirmative consent.




Our Commitment:

 

Speakers, Sponsors, Organizers and Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the organizing team may take any action they deem appropriate, up to and including expulsion from all GDG Algiers and WTM Algiers spaces or events and identification of that person as a harasser to other GDG Algiers or WTM Algiers members or the general public. We will be happy to assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event if needed.
