New post [Keyboards] Unicomp 122 Adventure:
Success! It took me a while, but there is still that learning curve, obviously. I took apart the second keyboard I'm discussing (the failed attempt at a partial screw mod) and screw modded it. A few screw holes didn't quite work out, but besides a single damaged spring that I need to replace, every key

New post [Group buys] F104+SSK+122+62+77+50+Ergo orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards
We are close to the one year mark of use of the Leyden Jar controller in the F122 keyboards, and I can confirm the good news that I have received no new Leyden Jar bug reports in the past few months! Here are the ideas for future updates of the Leyden Jar controller. Credit for the ideas goes to Rico,

New post [Keyboards] IBM 122 F or 5251 Beamspring?
The 5251 Beamspring has the same physical layout as an XT model F... so seems like if a user is used to the XT layout, it wouldn't be a stretch to use the 5251. And thanks to xwhatsit and his work, the keys can be mapped to anything. Chyrosran's video on the 5251 shows how to adjust power to each key

New post [Keyboards] Looking for recommendations on which new keyboard I should buy
The difference is the switches: the actual mechanisms under the caps which you'll feel on every key-press. Read up / watch videos on keyboard switches and come back to us once you know what to ask about!
Look for a (Topre switch) Realforce review and a (buckling spring switch) Unicomp review, too. They

New post [Keyboards] weytool - a tool to configure the Weytec MK06 Keyboard
I recently came across an Weytec MK06 'batteship' keyboard. I did some reverse engineering of the firmware, and wrote weytool, which can be used to download/upload files from the keyboard. And of course it could also be used to delete unknown PINs in the keyboard. 8-)

New post [Workshop] Modeling an F key mechanism
Yes, heavier flippers will have higher momentum (even in friction less environment).
This higher momentum should displace PCB more (higher amplitude) but more slowly (lower frequency). That would be true if the flipper speed at the PCB impact corresponds to the resonant frequency of the PCB. Which is

In the off-chance that anyone sees this... I'm doing some research on the FK-555 -> Omnikey -> Avant lineage and the many posts about them here has been invaluable so far. Polecat, would you consider sharing your database of documented units? I can also add in the details from my 4 Omnikeys and

New post [Keyboards] Where to find vintage boards?
Other than a handful of 1970s-'80s IBM typewriters, I've NEVER found a good vintage keyboard at a thrift store (I live in one of the biggest metro areas in the US). So, the vintage keyboards (Model Fs, a 1985 Model M, other Model Ms, Cherry stuff) in my collection I've sourced either on eBay or through
