Thoughts on a rainbow
wave
deponti

I looked out of the running bus.

Part of the bow could be seen by us.

But no one looked. I don't know why.

Surely mobile phones are not as good

As looking outside. They should

Enjoy a rainbow arching over the sky.

The debate about the college toilet
wave
deponti

There was long and acrimonious debate about where to locate the toilet on the college campus. The academic types wanted it near the library, and the athletic types wanted it near the stadium. It was ultimately built near the stadium.

One of the academics came, used it, and wrote on the wall:

"I like not this toilet at all:

The seat is too high, and the hole is too small."

After this, an athlete used the toilet, looked at the message, and added:

"The only thing I can say in retort

Is, your bum is too big and your d*ng is too short."

A visitor came and used the convenience and added:

"What with humour and what with wit,

Seems as if Shakespeare came here to sh*t!"

Exquisite Creatures, Seattle, 310526

We went to an exhibition of "Exquisite Creatures" by Christopher Marley

Obviously, I could not photograph more than a fraction, but I made a movie of my photos, and I would like to share it with all of you. Because I was fascinated and enthralled, not only by the creatures, but the sheer variety in the exhibition, the amount of work required to create, mount, and transport all off the artwork, the texts, and the electronics required for the interactive pieces (they light up when switches are pressed.)

The artist had many boards with texts, showing that he has thought deeply about the confluence of art and nature. He talks about colour, shapes, unity, diversity, rarity, appeal, and other related topics. He's honest about his childhood love of lizards and fear of roaches, which he has not been able to get over. (You can see some of the texts in the movie.)

As I watched and wandered through the exhibition (I spent nearly 2 hours there, a little beyond closing time, courtesy of the exhibition space), I thought of so many of you who are experts with so many of these creatures.....Shyamal with insects, Gowri with snakes, just to name two people!

Why wrap textbooks and notebooks?
wave
deponti

I simply cannot understand why we still have this practice of "wrapping" school books and notebooks. Those who publish school textbooks probably take a lot of trouble over the colour and design of the cover. Why hide this variety under brown paper?

I think of the tremendous waste of paper this practice involves, especially when the first wrapper wears off and a second or even third cover is required, as the books start showing wear and tear, alternatively stuffed into, and taken out of, school backpacks. Why don't we stop this needless practice and save a lot of paper?

Also, the brown paper, in a variety of shades and textures, does not provide the uniformity which is probably the aim of the exercise.

For most parents this is an added chore (or, in the case of those who employ others to do the work, an additional expense) on top of the school tuition, uniform, bus, and other fees.

K2: What did one tide say to the other?

Me: What?

K2: Nothing, they just waved.

Me: Oh.

K2. What did one wave say to the other?

Me: What?

K2: Sea you later.

Me: Oh. Did you find those on some website?

K2: No, I made them up. Do you think I would go about reading bad puns online?
