About

Welcome to my Blog! I’m Ed Mitchard, a scientist at the University of Edinburgh, based in the School of GeoSciences.

My research focuses on integrating satellite data with forest inventory and community-led ground data in order to monitor (and hopefully reduce) tropical deforestation and degradation. More generally I am very interested in both the international and NGO/project level processes for reducing carbon emissions and encouraging sustainable development, and all efforts to encourage people towards higher living standards that simultaneously protect our planet’s vital ecosystem services.

If you want to find out more about my scientific research please look at my University home page here: http://www.geos.ed.ac.uk/homes/emitchar
