Types of Adoption – What’s Right for You?

From open to closed and semi-open adoptions, we guide you through each option to find what’s right for your comfort level and desired involvement. You stay in control—before, during, and after placement.

Open Adoption

Open adoption allows for direct communication between birth parents and adoptive families, both before and after the adoption takes place. This may include exchanging names, phone numbers, visits, photos, or ongoing updates. The level of openness varies based on mutual agreement and can evolve over time.

Closed Adoption

In a closed adoption, no identifying information is shared between the birth parents and adoptive family. There is no contact before or after the adoption. All records are sealed, and the adoptive family typically receives only basic medical or social history. This type of adoption provides privacy and confidentiality for all parties involved.

Semi-Open Adoption

In a semi-open adoption, there is some communication between the birth parents and adoptive family, but it is typically mediated by an adoption agency or attorney. Personal identifying information may not be shared, but letters, photos, or updates can be exchanged on a regular basis. This approach offers a balance between privacy and connection.

Semi-Closed Adoption

A semi-closed adoption is similar to semi-open, with limited contact facilitated through an intermediary. Birth parents and adoptive families may know basic non-identifying details about each other, but there is no direct communication. It provides a level of separation while still allowing for occasional updates and the exchange of information.

DeColores Adoptions is committed to helping pregnant mothers

DeColores Adoptions has trained counselors that are committed to helping expectant mothers who are unsure of what to do to make the best possible decision for themselves and their baby. In some cases, the best choice is to give a baby up for adoption, and in other instances, keeping the baby is the best decision.

Speak privately to a trained adoption counselor

If you are pregnant and you are unsure if you can raise your unborn child, the best thing you can do is speak privately to a trained adoption counselor. We have counseled hundreds of women over the years, and they have gone on to live happy, healthy lives after placing their babies for adoption. Their babies are thriving too.
