I believe that every student possesses unique strengths and potential that, when nurtured, can propel them toward extraordinary achievements. My teaching philosophy is rooted in the conviction that I can create a dynamic and empowering learning environment by focusing on and building upon students’ strengths.
Rather than dwelling on perceived deficiencies, I strive to uncover and cultivate students’ innate talents and passions. I aim to foster a deep sense of self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation by providing opportunities for students to explore their strengths. When students are empowered to leverage their abilities, I believe they become active and engaged participants in the learning process.
As an educator, I serve as a guide, mentor, and collaborator, helping students discover and refine their strengths. Through a combination of challenging coursework, supportive feedback, and authentic learning experiences, I seek to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to excel both inside and outside the classroom. Ultimately, I aim to inspire students to become lifelong learners who contribute positively to their communities.
By centering my teaching on students’ strengths, I create a classroom climate where everyone feels valued, respected, and capable of success.
Like most sociologists, my teaching begins with the “sociological imagination”- that is, “Neither the life of an individual nor the history of a society can be understood without understanding both.” C. Wright Mills
