Curry Barker‘s surprise $400M global grossing romance horror Obsession has set a streaming date on Peacock of July 17. That’s a 63-day theatrical window to streaming.
Focus Features, as we told you, acquired North American and certain foreign on the movie out of TIFF Midnight for $15M+. Obsession tells the tale about a guy, Bear (Michael Johnston), who wishes that the love of his life, Nikki (Inde Navarette) loves him back. However, chaos ensues.
Obsession opened to $17.1M stateside in mid-May and legged out to an unprecedented 14.6x multiple to a current $249.5M domestic off a rare A- for a horror movie. Co-produced by Blumhouse and financed originally by Capstone for $750K. The movie remains in the top 5 making $9.4M in its eighth week.
YouTube-made filmmaker, Barker, has his next movie, Anything But Ghosts, with Focus Features and Blumhouse. He also has a third secret project in the work with Blumhouse in addition to re-launching Texas Chainsaw Massacre with A24.

Universal offshore territories have made $127.6M through last Monday, with non-Uni markets grossing $30.6M, for an overall foreign take of $158.1M. Japan is opening on July 17 and Korea on Sept. 2.
Focus Features is planning an awards campaign for Obsession.
You can tell this date was set well in advance of Uni realizing how big the movie would be. Considering Peacock has never been a big-deal streamer, though, it might not even really hurt it much at the box office. Think of how well the first Five Nights at Freddy’s movie did even with it launching day-and-date on Peacock.
All thanks to Inde Navarrette – hope she partakes in the receipts – she is the reason for its massive success.
So at some point on July 17, Peacock is going to suffer an outrage due to the massive obsession with Obsession.
