Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to common questions about DAUK, membership, and how to get involved.
The Doctors' Association UK is an independent professional association representing doctors and medical students across the UK. We focus on workforce conditions, patient safety, and evidence-based health policy. Our work includes advocacy, research, media engagement, and support for doctors raising systemic concerns.
No. DAUK is a professional association and campaigning organisation. We work alongside recognised trade unions and support collective action where appropriate, but we do not act as a trade union and do not provide individual industrial representation.
Membership is open to medical students and doctors of all grades working or studying in the UK, including foundation doctors, SAS doctors, GPs, consultants, and those in academic or non-training roles. Supporter memberships may also be available for allies and organisations.
Members support independent advocacy for the profession and patient care. Membership provides access to policy briefings, surveys and reports, events and webinars, opportunities to contribute to campaigns and research, and a national network of engaged clinicians. Many campaigns and data projects are member-driven.
DAUK submits evidence to parliamentary inquiries, engages with regulators and national bodies, runs national surveys and FOI projects, and works with media to highlight workforce and patient safety issues. We aim to provide credible, data-driven advocacy grounded in frontline experience.
No. DAUK does not replace medical defence organisations or unions and cannot provide individual legal or employment representation. Where appropriate, we signpost members to relevant organisations and may use anonymised cases to inform wider policy work.
DAUK is primarily funded through membership subscriptions and donations. This supports research, campaigning, events, and operational costs. We remain independent and do not receive funding that compromises our advocacy positions.
