Diversity: Break down the barriers faced by the underrepresented groups and find innovative solutions to promote inclusivity, equity, and accessibility.
Innovation: This is the theme that asks you to uncover uncharted territories in the field of technology. Whether it is incorporating the latest AR/VR technology or implementing the latest AI technology in your project, please try to beas creative and innovative as possible. Don't be afraid of taking risks!
Campus: Enhance student experience and encourage student engagement by creating a safe, inclusive, accessible, and collaborative campus community. The example topics are student's health, security, connecting people on campus, and more. You are invited to build a project that will improve the campus experience.
Environment: Protect Mother Nature by developing solutions to solve environment problems such as global warming, food waste, pollution, biodiversity loss, land degradation, greenhouse gas emissions, species extinction, and more.
Requirements
1. Participant must be a York University students. All majors are welcomed.
2. Participant must have gotten an acceptance and RSVPed acceptance email.
3. Your project must be created on the day of the hackathon (Saturday, January 28th 9AM - 9 PM EDT). Do not submit projects from past hackathons or projects that were built before the start time of this hackathon. Any team who violates this rule will be disqualified. However, you are allowed to brainstorm ideas for your project before the hacking starts.
4. If your project involves code, your code must be available in a public repository (a link to your Github repository which must be public). If your project involves designing, your designing file (figma, canva, etc) must be in public domain.
5. Please ensure your pitch video is between 3 to 5 minutes long.
6. Plagarism is not tolerated and any team with plagarized work will be disqualified.
Prizes
Best Overall
The Best Overall award is given to the team that excels in every aspect of their project, from identifying the problem, developing a feasible solution, defining target users, effectively communicating value and uniqueness, and integrating one or more themes with a deep understanding. They exceeded expectations in terms of research, planning, execution and overall impact, standing out among other teams.
Each winning team member will receive $50 Amazon gift card.
Best Pitch
The Best Pitch award acknowledges the team with the most persuasive and well-articulated pitch for their project. Judging criteria will center on the team's ability to clearly define their target user, the problem being solved, the solution's feasibility, and the measurable impact the project will have. Emphasis will be placed on pitches that effectively communicate the value and uniqueness of the project, leaving a lasting impression on judges. To win, teams should demonstrate how their project addresses a real-world problem, its innovation and scalability.

Best Design
The Best UI/UX Award honors the team with the most outstanding user interface and user experience design. Judging criteria will center on the project's overall design, ease of use, and how well it addresses the needs of its target users. A well-designed UI-UX can play a crucial role in the success of a project. Teams should demonstrate how their design solutions solve user problems, and how it improves the overall user experience. Teams participating in this theme should focus on creating an intuitive and aesthetically pleasing design that makes your project user-friendly and easy to understand.
