bio [feed] back is an experimental video work that uses a variety of visual and audio effects to reflect on the telecommunications infrastructure from the inside out. By examining telephone poles as sculptural landmarks, relative to contemporary “geographic information systems”, bio [feed] back re-imagines the industrial embodiment of its wires, in an effort to navigate new psychogeographic landscapes. From traveling through telecommunications infrastructure via the BellAlliant building elevator to the often incoherent embodied narrative of power-line communications, bio [feed] back further explores the surreal cultural hegemony of how telecommunication (and likewise the political economy) travels through people, wires, buildings, maps and other infrastructure. This short media piece was directed, performed, produced and edited by Crystal Melville during the 2009 Centre for Art Tapes (CFAT) Media Scholarship Program in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
