Guidelines
Display reserves can only be made for two weeks at a time, and must be taken down on time.
Display reserves must be submitted to the Library Director for review regarding scheduling conflicts with other events, student study needs related to use of that area, and content evaluation to confirm all other department level display guidelines are met. The Library Director will reserve the space for the event, or inform the user that it was not approved, and why.
Displays and bulletin boards must meet library display procedure guidelines. These include:
Non-offensive displays (which would not be covered under the Constitution for free speech.) e.g. no pornographic, graphically violent, or abusive content.
Displays must be sponsored by an official group, with the approval of that group’s faculty/staff sponsor and leadership.
Not contain copyright protected materials that do not meet the librarians’ understanding of fair use functions.
Displays cannot infringe on students, faculty, or staff based on any legally protected variable, such as race, religion, color, gender, sexual orientation, etc.
Presentations and debates should be sponsored by a Crowder student or faculty group, with the approval of both the group leadership and the Staff/Faculty sponsor responsible for that group.
Presentations and displays may be denied at the sole discretion of the librarians. An example reason could be that the event’s proposed time and/or calendar date conflict with the library’s overall use for quiet study during finals or midterms. Another example could be that the library wishes to leave the area open for “pop-in” student use, again during finals and midterms. The librarians will make every effort to facilitate a large variety of uses, within these procedures.
Bulletin boards cannot have copyrighted materials, images, or characters (everything must be either original or from creative commons).
No postings of flyers from groups external to Crowder College will be allowed on bulletin boards.
Materials may be reviewed and approved by any full-time library staff in a position that requires a master's degree in Library Science (or higher) using the above requirements as a guide, with the understanding that materials that are questionable in nature should be brought to the Library Director for review prior to posting.
The Librarians reserve the right to remove any materials at any time to make room for other information sources.(Librarians are defined as library staff in a position that requires a master's degree in Library Science or equivalent.)
