Outer Banks: J.J. Observation

I have NO IDEA if anyone who knows either of these shows will see this, but what the heck.

So I watched most of Outer Banks last summer but never finished. Not for lack of interest, but that was when [Bad username: ozmissage] and I were watching all those shows every week as a part of our quarantine “tv club” and it’s pretty plot heavy and requires more attention than I can give it.

This past week I rewatched it all so I could finish it and I’m struck with how J.J. is BASICALLY a much more edgy Pacey Witter. (Dawson’s Creek.) And I feel like it’s no accident that he’s called J.J. (Joshua Jackson… hello?) I’m almost done with the final ep of season 1 which is why I’m up so late. Season 2 comes out this week, so I wanted to catch up before Friday.

Anyone watching?

Reading Frenzy

I don't know about you guys but there are times when I go through reading frenzies, and then there are times where I barely read anything all year. Last year was a MAJOR dry spell for me. But now I'm finding myself back into the groove.

I recently finished Heart Berries by Terese Marie Mailhot. I understand why its getting so much praise but I personally didn't like the POV. The author addressing "You" all the time.

I'm currently reading The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin. I'm about a third of the way through. I wonder if it's going to end up having a real supernatural twist (apart from the very obvious) or if it's just a drama in disguise. Although I would be OK with both. It's very engaging.

Apart from that, I'm reading a bunch of books on my "Literary Disco" to-reads list.(Books that they reviewed or talked about on the podcast that sounded good.) I currently have the following checked out:

Sabrina by Nick Drnaso
The Rape of Nanking by Iris Chang
There There by Tommy Orange

See it's not too many! One of those is a graphic novel.

Is anyone out in DW/LJ land reading anything good these days?

Quotes!

Today is timewaslost's birthday (happy birthday!), and in honor of her I'm going to start a quotes entry. I'm always saying to myself "Oh, what was that great quote from that show about the ladybugs? Or whatever?" Not much to go on! So I'm going to drop quotes in the comments whenever I come across them and then I'll have a place to go back to and look for them!

I'll start with this one!
"I always think of people, and maybe we all do, as frozen in the amber of the moment when we met them." - Tod Goldberg, Literary Disco, Episode 108

TV Talk!!

Haven't done one of these in a while.

What I've been watching. Despite my crazy hectic schedule. (I watch TV on my lunch breaks, when I'm babysitting after the kids to to sleep, and when I get a spare few hours, I cram as much TV into it as I can. This is rare. Maybe happens once every 2 weeks? Haha.)

→ Riverdale. Oh. Em. Gee. It's bloody fantastic. I am finally all caught up with season 1 and I'm shocked at how much I love everyone. Even Archie, to an extent. I need to find a way to catch up with season 2 so I can start watching the new episodes. Is anyone else watching this? I feel like this is a show that anyone who loved PLL would also love. And BARB from stranger things is in this! Anyone else watching?

→ The Gifted. I am digging it but not as much in later episodes as I was the first three. We will see how it goes. I'm actually liking Amy Acker here. I never really disliked her but I was mostly Meh about her roles after Angel. I haven't seen the latest episode.

→ The Good Place. I mentioned this in my last post but this show is fantastic and we all should be watching it. I've wanted KBell back in a show that I loved and this fits the bill, even though I kind of want her in something a bit more dramatic. I mean, I'll take it though! This show is fantastic in all ways.

→ Superstore. Just fun but don't take it too seriously.

→ Grey's Anatomy. I don't know how but I still watch this show.

→ Will & Grace again. I actually need to go back and watch the original. I did watch the original for most of its run but only here and there. I never ever watched week to week and probably have only seen 25% of the episodes. Blasphemy, I know! I am loving the new episodes. It's making me nostalgic for simpler times, lol.

→ Stranger Things Two. Really loved this season. I took a full week+ to complete it. I wish I had been able to hold out longer because I know it's going to be at least a year or more until the next season. I'm glad I didn't binge it all in one day. I had a few issues with the season. One was that standalone spoilerCollapse ) episode. Just was waiting for it to end. I'm pretty sure Steve is my favorite character still. But there are so many good ones to choose from. #justiceforbob

→ Younger. I know the season ended a while ago but I felt it was worth mentioning here. Really fun show and worth the watch.

→ The Sinner. I tried to watch this when it first came out, but since I don't have access to USA I have been watching some onDemand whenever I babysit. Not sure I'll be able to finish that way! It was pretty dark but I enjoyed the few episodes I saw. Definitely a tonal change for USA since they did Mr Robot. (I never did watch season two of Mr. Robot. Liked season one but had no interest in season two for some reason. Same thing happened with Dexter.)

I think that's it. That's enough isn't it? (Not pictured: SYTYCD.) Originally posted HERE You can comment anywhere you like!

Help me name my new dog!

I adopted a dog today! (Officially adopted -- she lived with me for a trial period for a little over a week.)

So she's a 6 year old wire haired fox terrier and she has the unfortunate distinction of having a name that rhymes with Finn. Her name is Erin. When you call Erin out loud (or scold her for stealing food for example), Finn has a REALLY hard time telling the difference. And he thinks you're calling him. Or scolding him. (It was HIS food she stole by the way, so here he is, thinking I'm correcting him for eating his own food. He was very upset!)

(In case you forgot!)

Erin, for her part, doesn't seem super confused. I think it's because she is hearing the "Er" part of her name and not paying so much attention to the "in" part.

So I need to rename her.

I know what you're thinking. How heartless and cruel! She's had that name for 6 years. Well I've looked into it and most experts say you can rename a dog and they will be fine with it in as little as a week, possibly two weeks. And an often cited great reason to rename a dog is that the new name sounds too much like the name of an existing dog in the household. So I'm gonna go with that.

Fun fact: I've never named any of my dogs even though I've lived with dogs my entire life. I have only named one cat (Dodger Fitzgerald).

Anyway so I'm trying to decide on names for her and this is what I've got. Help me pick between them:

- Sunday (maybe spelled Sundae)
- Zelda (as in Fitzgerald)

I considered naming her Po/Poe after Poe Dameron (Finn and Poe, since Finn is named for the Star Wars character) but unfortunately it sounds too much like the word "No." And I think that's a no-no. Haha. I could maybe be convinced otherwise, however. I'm sure Bo Obama got over it.

But right now it's a dead heat between Zelda and Sunday. I love them both equally although I do look forward to calling her "Queen Z" as a nickname. Haha. (But Sunshine would be really cute too. Omg!)

See? I am just like Chidi on The Good Place. Cannot decide anything. (Also if I name her Zelda, Sunday could easily be her middle name... Lol. I'm the worst.)
