But destiny would soon call him to a higher purpose. During a ministerial visit announcing the commencement of a new secondary school in Monkey Mountain, emphasis was placed on the urgent need for qualified secondary teachers. Moved by the 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥 and the glaring reality of widespread Mathematics failure in his community, Edwin made a bold pivot. He switched his major to Mathematics, and with that, doubled the academic intensity, by completing his Mathematics Major courses. His time at CPCE was not without hardship. From being away from his family to grappling with lesson planning, every challenge was a stepping stone. With the guidance of his lecturers and an unrelenting inner drive, Edwin mastered the art of Math pedagogy, never losing sight of why he began: to uplift his own children and the children of Monkey Mountain.

“I strongly believe that after my training at CPCE, I can help students in my community to pass Mathematics with at least a Grade 2, not just my students, but my own children too,” Edwin stated with quiet pride.

Beyond academics, Edwin also found growth in unexpected places. A sports enthusiast by nature, he enrolled in CPCE’s newly established Archery Club, a passion rooted in childhood but refined into sport. What began as curiosity transformed into excellence. Edwin trained rigorously, embraced the discipline of the sport, and went on to clinch 1st place in a National Archery Competition, outshining competitors from CPCE, UG, GTI, and GSA. This victory led to his induction into the prestigious Pro Archer Guyana, positioning him to one day introduce the sport to his own students, making history again as the first to bring the sport of Archery to the school in Monkey Mountain.

His story is not one of ease, but one of endurance, evolution, and empowerment. He sustained his family while studying, pursued excellence with limited resources, and chose growth in the face of adversity. Today, he stands as a beacon of what’s possible when belief meets effort.

“Being at CPCE taught me invaluable lessons. If I can do it, anyone can. All you need is passion, belief, and commitment. Set your goals and work relentlessly. It’s better to try and fail than to fail to try,” Edwin shared.

“Failure is not a problem, it’s an opportunity to rise stronger.”

As he prepares to walk the stage as a newly minted trained Mathematics teacher, Noris Edwin carries far more than a certificate, he carries the dreams of a village, the love of a father, the laughter of his children, and the unshakable truth that belief changes everything.
