This workshop offers therapists a practical, experiential framework for working with individuals and couples that helps make sense of conflict through an Internal Family Systems lens. Participants learn how to identify and work with the protective “parts” that show up between partners, support courageous and compassionate communication, and use the relationship itself as a pathway for healing so that sessions move beyond problem-solving into deeper connection, repair, and growth.
The model translates seamlessly into individual therapy and couples/relationship therapy by strengthening clinicians’ ability to track internal dynamics, attachment needs, and nervous system activation that shape clients’ relationships. Through discussion, video demonstrations, and guided practice, therapists leave with concrete interventions they can apply immediately, helping clients (both individuals and those they are relationships with) build regulation, increase self-leadership, and create more secure, responsive patterns of relating.

Learn about the applications of mindfulness and mindfulness-based programs (MBPs) in contemporary society.
This 9-hour training is for professionals to learn about the use of mindfulness in healthcare, social services, education, and the community.
It emphasizes the two core MBPs – Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) – and serves as the first training module for the Centre’s certificate training pathways. It also covers Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) and surveys the many other applications including how mindfulness is used as a tool for personal and professional resilience.
This workshop moves between didactic and experiential practices to cover the historical, theoretical, and scientific underpinnings of mindfulness. It includes an introduction to the three most common Mindfulness-Based Programs: Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), as well as other clinical applications of mindfulness.
The experiential workshop explores how mindfulness is increasingly used to address stress, depression, anxiety, and other challenges in contemporary society.
Participants are given the opportunity to lead a short mindfulness practice in smaller groups with feedback from the teacher.
Learning Objectives:
• To be able to define mindfulness
• To experience and reflect on a number of introductory mindfulness practices and the post-meditation inquiry process that support these
• To acquire an introductory understanding of the three most common MBPs (MBCT, MBSR, MSC) while surveying other clinical and educational applications of mindfulness
• To explore and appreciate the historical and theoretical roots of contemporary mindfulness
• To consider the evidence-base, mechanisms, and limitations of mindfulness
• To practice delivering a brief mindfulness practice suitable for clients
Who Should Attend:
This introductory course is meant for general interest and professional development.
It is most suitable for those interested in the professional application of mindfulness including those working in healthcare, social service, education, and other sectors.
It is suitable for professionals looking to explore mindfulness for personal and professional resilience but is not a substitute for therapy. There is no prerequisite for this course.

Couple Therapy for Borderline Personality Disorder, Suicidality, and Emotion Dysregulation (Sage)
October 1–2, 2026 | Online via Zoom | 10:00 am–5:00 pm ET (7:00 am–3:00 pm PT)
Registration link: https://www.liebmanpsychology.com/event-list
Join Drs. Skye Fitzpatrick and Rachel Liebman for a two-day workshop providing an overview of the Sage protocol; a new couple-based psychotherapy for couples wherein one partner experiences borderline personality disorder (BPD), suicidal or self-injurious behaviour, or emotion dysregulation.
What is Sage?
Sage is a 12-session treatment that integrates principles of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioural Conjoint Therapy (CBCT). Its unique focus targets three domains simultaneously:
· BPD symptoms and emotion dysregulation
· Relationship functioning
· Partner mental health
To our knowledge, Sage is the only couple intervention designed to treat BPD/emotion dysregulation that has been formally manualized and tested. Pilot results are showing promising effects (Read more here, here, and here) and a large-scale RCT is currently underway.
What will I learn?
Through a mix of lecture, case material, and audience role plays, workshop participants will learn a collection of strategies to reduce BPD, suicidality, and relationship distress including:
1. Couple case formulation of processes that maintain BPD and suicidality
2. Dyadic strategies to manage safety, regulate emotions, and interrupt life-threatening behavior and high-intensity conflict
3. Techniques to facilitate interpersonal emotion regulation and effective communication.
4. Strategies to address destructive intrapersonal (e.g., self-harm) and interpersonal (e.g., conflict) behaviours.
5. Adapted interventions for couples with a range of backgrounds and relationship structures.
By the end, you will leave with concrete skills to disrupt harmful cycles, enhance emotional communication, and promote long-term gains in couples impacted by BPD and emotion dysregulation.
Who should attend:
Clinicians with experience in either couple/family therapy or the treatment of BPD/emotion dysregulation. (Expertise in both is helpful but not required.)
Skill level: Intermediate–Advanced
Learning Objectives (abbreviated):
1. Identify suitable candidates for the Sage protocol.
2. Understand the evidence for involving partners in BPD treatment.
3. Develop and deliver dyadic case formulations.
4. Apply strategies for risk assessment, safety planning, and conflict management.
5. Reduce maladaptive interpersonal contingencies that sustain suicidality/self-harm.
6. Build skills for addressing challenges such as therapeutic ruptures and adherence.
7. Apply techniques to promote intrapersonal and interpersonal safety, dyadic emotion regulation, and sustained treatment gains.

Do you have clients who struggle with sensory regulation? Many psychologists know that sensory body-based work is important, but struggle to recognize exactly where their clients need support and how to help. Learn how to think about and analyze the senses in a simple, and concrete way that is easily implemented in your practice and explained to clients and their families.
Learning Objectives:
– Understand the 8 sensory systems and how they influence behaviour, learning and emotional regulation in daily life
– Recognize the signs of sensory dysregulation and identify how it may present in children and adults
– Analyze case examples to determine which sensory systems may be under- or over-responsive
– Discover how to use a sensory regulation approach to help reveal the causes of problem behaviours like inattention, aggression, withdrawal, and meltdowns
– Promote a sensory-friendly clinical environment for your clients.
