AI - Artificial Intelligence

When and What to Cite from Generative AI

Please confirm with your instructor before using artificial intelligence (AI) for an assignment. (Some courses or assignments do not permit the use of AI tools, while others may allow it.)

The current consensus amongst most citation styles is to cite AI tools as "personal communication" because content from AI tools is usually nonrecoverable. Some citation and referencing styles have published interim guidelines on how AI generated materials should be cited. In general, AI-generated materials should be treated as a non-recoverable source and/or akin to personal communication. Follow guidelines for how to cite those resources types within the chose reference style.
