Centre for Innovation in Teaching & Learning
Articulation is foundational to student mobility, program quality, and the integrity of our transfer pathways. Through active participation in provincial and inter-institutional articulation processes, we ensure that our curricula remain current, that our students experience seamless transfer opportunities, and that their credentials are recognized and respected across the post secondary system. In the light of ongoing fiscal pressures, the College has reduced its articulation travel budget. We remain fortunate to retain dedicated funding for articulation participation, unlike several public post-secondary institutions in the province. At the same time, available resources will not support universal in-person attendance. The College is therefore adopting a virtual first model, with in person participation approved only where clearly justified.
1. Virtual First Principle
Virtual attendance is the default expectation when a virtual option is available. Faculty are expected to participate online unless exceptional circumstances warrant in-person attendance.
2. In-Person Attendance by Exception
In-person travel may be approved where compelling circumstances exist, including:
Routine attendance, general networking, or preference for in person engagement will not normally meet the threshold for approval.
3. Annual Funding Limit and Review
For those with extenuating circumstances listed above, the articulation travel budget will support only one in-person articulation meeting per faculty member per fiscal year.
Approval of one meeting does not guarantee approval in subsequent years, as requests will continue to be assessed based on institutional need, available funds, and equity considerations.
4. Single Representative Model
The College will fund only one representative per articulation meeting. Where multiple faculty express interest, the Dean or designate will determine representation based on program impact, succession planning, and strategic priorities.
5. Equity and Cost Stewardship
To ensure equitable access across disciplines and campuses, requests with significantly higher cost profiles are less likely to be approved. Faculty are expected to select the most economical and reasonable travel options available.
6. Prioritization Criteria
When budget decisions are required, priority will be informed by:
Information on policies and procedures regarding articulation and transfer credits.
Information on procedures and guidelines for travel requests.
Information on hosting an articulation meeting at College of the Rockies.
Information on the review process for courses for transfer credit.
