Ivan Braginsky had run from his marriage, convinced that his husband was better off without him. Now that he’d made his home on a Texas ranch, he’d had no plans of ever returning.

After 5 years, Ivan is tired of fighting. Of his job, of his reputation, and most of all with his husband. After a horrible fight concerning rumors with his husband's friend Francis and Alice, a woman that many expected Alfred to marry Ivan leaves. He goes out into the Colorado to hide. Tino, a fellow immigrant whom moved their with his wife Elsa, F!Sweden. Fast forwards 3 years and Alfred arrives into town. After spending years looking for him, Al refuses to return without his husband.
Ivan, in the beginning of his marriage, was a bit in love with Alfred. The two of the were married young, but later Ivan learns that Al was forced into marrying him since Alice had a damaged reputation. And for years he has had to deal with Al's family snubbing their nose at him and listening to rumors concerning him, Alice (a woman whom Al seems to have been hanging around a lot, especially the night of the huge fight) and dealing with Al's restrictive family (British Isles and Granma Britiannia), it is Grandma who puts the final nail in the coffin by stating that extramarital affairs are just what happens and that he should except it and that he can join in the fun after he's had at least 2 children.
Alfred, was just angry. He was in love with an older widow (whom had 3 husbands die on her) and was not allowed to be with her. He was basically blackmailed into the marriage, especially since his brother went off and eloped with a German. While he doesn't begrude his brother anything, he hates the strain it put on his relationship. Al a rebellious sort, since he was the younger son, is now forced into being the respectable one. He marries Ivan for that respectability. He assumes that Ivan is just a typical omega and doesn't realize that Ivan is just socially awkward and has a bit of a crush on him. While Al does think its cute, he is still too made at the loss of control of his life. The rumors are because Al doesn't care about the consequences. He goes on acting like marriage didn't change anything, even going so far as to later tell Ivan that he really isn't into omega's and is in fact straight, crushing Ivan's dreams of having children. Al does cheat on Ivan, and Ivan, pissed and tired of riducule explodes which escalate until the two are fighting. It isn't until Ivan has left that Al realizes what Ivan has had to deal with and his reputation has be crushed as much as Ivan's was.
Al is searching for Ivan mostly for guilt, anger (that his husband would leave him) and principle(they are supposed to be together through thick and thin).
Ivan has worked to become very self-sufficient. He works partly at Tino's ranch and has his own farming, a place where his height and strength actually works for him. And given that almost everyone has a different accent, no one looks at him odd when he gets a word wrong and can talk in his original language with Anton (M!Urkraine), Irina (Urkraine), Pavel (M!Belarus), Natayla. Pavel has a bit of a crush on him, and really doesn't like the fact that Ivan is already married (something the angers the people).

Italy is friendly and asks him where he is going. Ivan shyly says no where. At getting a better look at his face, Italy opens his eyes and asks to see the letter. He then points him to where he which train to get on. He informs him that he'll be late. Ivan gives a wane smile, one the doesn't reopen the cut on his lip. Watching him go, Italy drops the smile as he remembers the look of those eyes. It is that look that makes it easy for him and other train workers to claim that they never saw the man in the cameo. cute, he is still too made at the loss of control of his life.
