Conservation Collective’s growing network of Foundations works with local conservation leaders and their communities to identify and respond to urgent environmental challenges.

Across land, freshwater and marine ecosystems, our Foundations support practical, community-based projects and applied research to restore ecosystems, protect native species, reduce pollution, and build climate resilience. By working together as a Collective, we share learning, spread innovation, find efficiencies, and build global momentum towards protecting the natural world.

Impact goals

At Conservation Collective, true impact means creating lasting change for nature and the people who love it and depend on it. Working from the ground up – through our locally-led Foundations and their partners – our approach is centred on people and built on trust, local knowledge, and strong community relationships.

To understand our impact we use evidence in its many forms – from scientific research to local and traditional knowledge. By recording activities and outcomes, and listening to stories and experiences from the field, we see how projects contribute to long-term change across our four core impact goals:

01

Restoring Ecosystems

Supporting work to restore and protect ecosystems so that they can continue to sustain biodiversity and support the well-being of local communities. Including:

  • strengthening protection through ecosystem mapping and assessment, participatory management, and advocacy

  • advancing restoration through replanting native species, creating landscape corridors, and restoring wetlands

  • connecting communities through citizen science, sustainable livelihoods, and knowledge exchange

02

Protecting Native Species

Supporting a wide range of locally-led initiatives to protect and restore native species. Including:

  • in-situ action to protect habitats, track populations, and reduce pressures such as bycatch and human-wildlife conflict

  • ex-situ action through breeding programmes, wildlife rehabilitation, and managed reintroductions

  • community engagement through citizen science, sustainable use, and co-designed projects

03

Reducing Pollution

Supporting work that reduces the flow of pollution into nature. Including:

  • changing behaviours to phase out single-use plastics, and promoting low-pollution business practices

  • mobilising community action on clean-ups, monitoring, and advocacy

  • supporting innovation using nature-based solutions and circular economy approaches

04

Building Climate Resilience

Supporting projects that strengthen the resilience of both people and nature, so that ecosystems and communities can better withstand and adapt to a changing climate. This includes work to:

  • promoting sustainable and regenerative farming practices that improve soil health and strengthen water and food security

  • restoring wetlands and natural water systems to regulate water flow and reduce flood and drought risk

  • supporting community-led advocacy for climate resilience and nature

As a Collective, we bring our learning together – sharing knowledge and amplifying successes.

In this way, local experiences build into a global movement, ensuring that communities are leading the way towards a healthier, more resilient future for people and the natural world.

Thematic Portfolios

Our thematic portfolios bring together Foundations from across our network where they are working towards shared outcomes, using similar approaches, or tackling common challenges.

Our first four themes are Seagrass & Seaweed, Regenerative Farming, Native Species Recovery and Tackling Plastic Pollution, with more to follow. Each portfolio combines the flexibility and rootedness of our locally-led model with global ambition: connecting people, aligning goals, and directing funding where collective action delivers the greatest impact.

  • Seagrass & Seaweed

Seagrass and seaweed ecosystems are vital, carbon-rich habitats that sustain marine life, protect coastlines, and support livelihoods, yet over 30% of seagrass range has been lost and decline continues.

Our work focuses on monitoring and mapping seagrass and seaweed to guide Marine Protected Areas, tackling pressures like improper anchoring, testing and sharing restoration methods, and working with communities to support long-term care.

  • Species Recovery

Over the past 50 years, global wildlife populations have fallen by around 73%.

Our locally-led partners work to reverse this decline, focusing on native threatened species through population monitoring, breeding, reintroduction, and reducing threats like bycatch, invasive species, and human–wildlife conflict.

These efforts are supported by research, advocacy, and community engagement.

  • Regenerative Farming

Agriculture uses about 70% of global freshwater, nearly half of habitable land, and generates around 26% of greenhouse gas emissions. Regenerative farming restores soil, supports biodiversity, improves water management, reduces pollution, and strengthens livelihoods.

Our portfolio promotes regenerative practices through training, hands-on support, and farmer knowledge-sharing—while preserving traditional farming practices.

  • Tackling Plastic Pollution

Over 430 million tonnes of plastic are produced each year, with two-thirds becoming waste—much of it polluting nature, harming wildlife, and affecting human health and livelihoods.

This portfolio backs locally led initiatives tackling plastic pollution—from clean-ups and recycling to plastic-free and circular solutions. Projects generate data to drive policy change and practical initiatives like reusable fishery containers and beach toy libraries.

  • easyJet holidays: Reducing Tourism’s Impact

easyJet holidays has supported four environmental projects so far across the Mediterranean to safeguard biodiversity and promote responsible tourism among their customers. These include plastic-free hotels in Menorca, Posidonia seagrass protection in Santorini, edible invasive marine species culinary training in Cyprus, and native wildflower protection and awareness in Turkey.

  • This grant has been essential in fast-tracking our project literally years… saving us a lot of time and money and making rewilding the sea at a landscape scale much more likely.

  • People often talk about protecting nature, but concrete action is rarely taken! Thanks to funding from TEF, however, it was possible to restore a vital wetland area located within a Natura 2000 forest site. This intervention is helping to prevent the disappearance of amphibians that are highly endangered, such as the Great Crested Newt and the Apennine Yellow-bellied Toad, making a real contribution to safeguarding biodiversity!

  • With the support of Devon Environment Foundation we have not only been able to significantly boost our production of Dartmoor provenance trees – almost doubling the number of trees we are growing at any one time over a little more than two years – but we have also been able to be more confident about the commitments we make and the ambitions we have in terms of the speed of habitat restoration we want to drive. As a funder they have been so supportive and encouraging. Always thinking of useful introductions and sharing ideas. It is a true partnership.
