About Us

What is Connect MD?

ConnectMD provides non-urgent clinical advice and support to assist primary care providers in managing patient care and addressing clinical questions that do not require immediate intervention.

The program is delivered through a telephone advice line, which connects primary care providers with local specialists within two business days.

Who the Service Is For

ConnectMD is available to primary care providers — specifically family physicians and nurse practitioners — practicing within the Edmonton Zone and North Zone in Alberta.

Scope of the Service

ConnectMD is intended for non-urgent clinical advice only.

It may be used to support:

  • Clinical decision-making
  • Care-planning and next-step guidance
  • Non time-sensitive questions related to patient management

It is not appropriate for:

  • Medical emergencies
  • Unstable or rapidly deteriorating patients
  • Situations requiring immediate assessment or intervention
  • Escalating an existing specialty referral or procedure

ConnectMD does not provide direct patient care and does not replace clinical judgment.

ConnectMD must not be used for urgent or emergency situations. In urgent or emergent situations, providers should contact RAAPID-North or direct patients to appropriate emergency services.

How the Program Operates

All calls are managed by our Program Coordinators. The Coordinators collect relevant information via our non-urgent advice request form and facilitate connections to appropriate specialist support in accordance with established processes.

Hours of Operation

Monday to Thursday: 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Friday: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
