Training

We provide a range of high-quality training designed to support interpreters, translators, Deaf professionals, organisations and teams working with the Deaf community. Our trainers, supervisors and assessors include experienced Deaf and hearing practitioners who deliver clear and accessible learning across the UK.

CPD Sessions and Workshops

We deliver specialist CPD for Sign Language Interpreters, Deaf Interpreters, Translators and Intralingual Interpreters. Sessions focus on professional practice, developing skills and staying confident in a fast-moving profession.

Recent CPD topics we have delivered include language development, role boundaries, power imbalance in interpreting, understanding Deaf people with dementia, teamwork between Deaf and hearing interpreters and safeguarding in adult services led by a qualified social worker. We continue to offer a wide range of CPD topics and will introduce new sessions based on current needs in the profession.

Sessions are available online or onsite for small groups or larger teams.

Deaf Awareness and Communication Training

Our Deaf Awareness training has been delivered in schools, law firms, NHS teams and a range of public and private organisations. Each session is tailored to the workplace and provides practical guidance on communicating with Deaf colleagues, clients and service users.

We also provide awareness and communication training directly in an ATW client’s workplace, supporting teams to communicate confidently and manage day-to-day interactions.

Further options include communication workshops, guest speaking and bespoke training. Previous work includes role play sessions for medical professionals at Aston University to develop effective working with interpreters, including Deaf interpreter and Deaf/Hearing interpreter teams.

Signature Approved Centre

We are an approved Signature Centre offering courses and assessments with flexible options based on your skills, experience and learning needs. Whether you are new to BSL, require training in the workplace or only need assessments for professional purposes, we can provide the right support.

This includes preparation for interpreting and translation qualifications and ad hoc courses as they are developed. We also offer national ad hoc training by recruiting qualified regional teachers to deliver courses directly at your location.

Training is delivered by qualified tutors with professional experience across community, education and specialist settings.
