R.O.D doesn't take place in an Apartment with interconected sections with different thematic, it actually takes place in a Eternal Hellish Purgatory with no escape. This was all created by an Godlike Being called: THE_DEMISE(full name: THE_DEMISE.execution)

"Whos THE_DEMISE?"

"Born from an 'Malware', THE_DEMISE was actually suppossed to be an Deadly Virus that could infect other devises, but one day, after infecting almost every device on the state, he finally took control over everything. He broke out of every device he infected, making many Creatures in the progress called 'Entities'. After all that chaos that THE_DEMISE has made, everything causes by him was grouping in the middle of the whole state, making the form people knows him from. After all of that, he decided the world was an Dull place, so he decided to make his own Eternal Hellish Purgatory, by distorting & destroying everything he wanted on the Real World. After that, the persons inside those things he destroyed got transformed into souls that roams through this, searching for help through-out the eternal and hellish pain."
