WoW Housing – New Fountain Pt. II

It is fun to find a new decor piece and explore possibilities. I keep calling this a “new fountain”, but it was in the game. So, new to me, how is that. Late into the night, I did two more Follower Dungeon runs to get two more fountains.

………………………………………………………………..

This “works”. I was stoked to see how well the top bulb took light. One single candle and the whole thing took on a glow. In this one, I scaled the whole thing way up. It is now my second stairwell fountain.

The next thing to try would be to scale it way down and make some tiny little thing tucked in a spot. But, after seeing the other fountain with its sheet of water, this is terrific. And I could jam the whole thing into the wall and hide the source, leaving just the falling water exposed.

……………………………..

I tried one outside. It doesn’t “work”. Not really. I didn’t spend too much time because it wasn’t working very well but I tried. The window is too bright, and I want to try masking the window with an elegant drape — but I am right up against my decor budget and deleting other carefully place items. The sacrifice isn’t worth it. But it is worth sharing a screen shot as part of the journey.

This new, to me, fountain as a decor piece takes a little effort by way of running a follower dungeon. I can’t go buy ten from a vendor, but we all want our resources at our fingertips when making things. And goodness me, they tinkle!

Housing Decor – New Fountain

The other night I got a small parade of people in my house. It started with my explaining how to do a window treatment to one of our guildies and people on Discord said, “I want to see that.” As you can imagine, I spent time showing how to flip windows and stack them and then, in my case, pushing some plant clusters behind the windows. You’ve done this. I also showed how to push a fountain into the wall.

While we were on tour, we came across this fountain:

It is very pretty and all lit up and fun. One of those in our group, a tank for our raid and a woman said, “I’m not really into the girly things.” — What a sec. Does that mean that I am? What was she suggesting! I’m still laughing about it.

………………………………………………………………………….

So — anyways, my house is now 9 and I have a lot of room(s) to decorate. And I’m still deciding what to do. And I did a follower dungeon, called The Blinding Vale, just to collect another one of those girly fountains. And I have stairs now (for the moment at least) and pushed my new fountain into the corner and down. And I think that it works.

………………………………………………………………..

I pushed it down to skip the base. I added the flipped woolen rug to make water and so on. Take a look.

………………………………….

It was amazing, to my girly brain, that the high cup that starts the flow of water fit! Like it was a natural thing on the wall.

……………………………………………………

Here is a view from the stairs looking down, it needs a little work but the concept is there.

………………………………………..

I have a Boralus Bottle Lamp to light it up some more and to add warmth, I think that it works. This time I flipped a ceramic bowl on its side to mask the light source.

………………………………………………….

It is the Veilroot Fountain from the Blinding Vale dungeon.

WoW Housing: Boralus Bottle Lamp

And again, this terrific lighting source might be my favorite piece of decor. But — my house and world are in a pretty dark area

Here is a before and after screenshot, adding one bottle lamp.

These things have to be tinkered with! In this case, I scaled it up some. But I feel that I need some masking piece to hide the source, maybe a little clamshell.

……………………………………………………………………………………………….

Two tiny lamps make for a wonderful, warm and inviting entrance to my home.

………………………………………………………..

I put three on the platform for the Gryphon Roost.

…………………………………………………………….

Whatever this thing is — it got one single light and now it has an accent for this piece stuck in a corner.

…………………………………………………………………………………..

I put a tiny one way up on top of the flagpole that sits on top of my house.

……………………………………………………………..

Finally, one on a table that warms up the area right when you show up at the cornerstone. I do spend a lot of time running back and forth trying to see what that first impression will look like.

…………………………………………….

In all, I’m pretty happy with this. Our outside was looking pretty dark and, yeah, that is the theme of the area. The challenge, I feel, is that using these accent lights might make the yard look spotty. Odds are that I’ll be moving these around a lot and trying to find a good place and use for them.

I’d say that the outside area suddenly looked huge after all of the detail time indoors.

I hope that you liked my tour and, if you have a dark exterior, give these little lamps a go of it.

WoW Housing – Outside Decor Updates

A new listing on MMO champions shows over 100 decor items that can now be used outdoors.

Housing Decor Hotfixes – 106 Decor Items Can Now Be Placed Outside

It blows my mind to think that we can build walls and add doors outside, and I think that I want to try it.

Also the Boralus Bottle Lamp is one of the items and I am a huge fan of this utility piece. I want to try tucking it into some plant clusters or bracket my front door. Windowsills …

The path to information seems to be a WoW designer posted this on Twitter (X). Then it was picked up by reddit, maybe. And then posted on MMO champs. I don’t get it. This seems to be a huge change (you can now put your easel and paintings outside), why not an official blue post?

I just saw this via a little forum posting with six comments. Crazy. But it is currently Reset, servers are down. But I’ll be the first in line to try some of these new changes!

WoW Housing – The New Stuff

Before we get onto the new stuff, I’m pretty happy with my front area.

As you can see, it is pretty active with a waterfall and braziers. I run over to the cornerstone a lot to see what the first impression will be for a visitor. Do you think that I need a little something right at the cornerstone? Maybe a chair or a small table with a drink?

…………………………………………………………….

I’m slowly getting things from Midnight Professions. As it is, well, it is kind of spendy right now. So, all I’m doing is putting them on display on a table. With more knowledge points, well, I wonder if you can multicraft decor pieces.

………………………………

BUT (but, but) the main reason that I’m posting is that in the LFR (just now!) I got the Tattered Vanguard Banner. This is just the thing that I’ve been wanting, a flagpole so that I can be seen. It is animated, it looks like it is blowing in the breeze.

So, I put it on my roof and zoom scaled it all of the way up! Very happy.

I’d like longer flagpoles and simple alliance blue banners. A designer can dream, right?

WoW Housing: Fishing Net

So that’s what it is for. The Pandaren Fishing Net, now I want twenty of them.

This is still a little rough, but I’m starting to like the ropes on the edges showing — and that isn’t good.

It gives the window a unique look. With scaling I could stack two more windows on top. Or flip it and so on. Lots of choices.

…………………………………………………………

WoW Housing: Shop Signs

The new Shop Signs are pretty cool. You earn them by getting to max in a profession. You can buy a duplicate after that for five gold. The first one that I earned was for Fishing.

………………………………………………………………………………………..

I knew exactly where to put that sign! My whole front area of my outdoors house is dedicated to fishing. I’m super-sad that the water doesn’t yield up the current fish in the game. Still, that sign was pretty good.

………………………………..

Did you know that you can max out cooking right by the Cooking Trainer? The materials cost silvers though it must add up to a gold or two. Still, very fast and cheap. And satisfying to be done. But, what to do with the new Shop Sign?

……………………………………………………………

I put it up in my cooking area. I think it might come back down. This suggests that I am now an Inn for Travelers and my cooking is for sale. Or some such. Selling the Catch of the Day is one thing, opening up my doors, well, that is another. But in another light, that might be the whole point of Housing.

……………………………………………………….

Ultimately our Shop Signs may not fully reflect the role play of our homes. They might be simply for showing off.

…………………………………

Herbing, Mining, Fishing and Cooking so far. Eventually Engineering, Alchemy and Inscription with Jewel Crafting way down the line. I reckon I’ll just line them up!

……………………………………………………………….

WoW Housing: Housing Hijinx

Here is a silly thing. We push upside down benches to make headers. But those are still benches. They have cogs.

……………………………………………………………………………

At the upper left, you can see the bench. And you can see that I floated a cobblestone to jump upon.

……………………………………..

Up on the cobblestone to click on the cog.

……………………………………………..

Once clicked, I am now outside! You can see the rest of the water fountain.

……………………………

And again:

………………………………………

If you jump down from your bench to the outside, you are instantly ported to the front of your house.

So. a little bit of fun but not a lot of fun. As far as cool views go, our house editor does it better.

But now we know!

……………………………………………………………………

WoW Housing: Some Outdoor Lighting

Well, well, well. There is not a total ban on outdoor lighting — or something slipped through.

I did it. I switched to a Medium sized house to see what it looked like. Of course, I had to make an outdoor waterfall!

What you see is an Amani Brazier! It does work outside and, since I’m designing at night, it is dark out there. I was scrolling through my inventory with *outdoors only. And fell out of my chair.

And there is more:

This is called a Rootlight.

Both of these were rewards from the Heavy Trunk in the Delves. I looked them up and it was the College one and the Grudge Pit one. Since I’ve run these a bunch, they are either rare drops or one-per-account.

…………………………..

Good news indeed!

And, yeah, the screenshots were taken at night, sorry about that, but I was too excited to wait until morning. And, yes, you do see some magic in my fountain — I pushed a tesla coil in there to get some random lightning because it is … magic.

Cascading Calamity

I bought a new computer!

It was delivered on Monday by a stalwart bravo who dared my upper-floor apartment door. The weight was a big thing to me because that last time that I went this route, it was all delivered to the manager’s office, and I had to do the hauling. To see it parked at my front door was a relief.

I wanted it to be Christmas and was eager to tear into the box to see my expensive prize. But I looked over at my old computer and that machine, and the table, could use some cleaning. And then, if that, I needed a new cleaning under my monitor and around my desk. Plus, now that I was thinking about it, maybe it was a good time to pull that table out and get a vacuum underneath all of that — I mean, really, I practically live at this station. Since I was doing that, well, I could drag all of my living area stuff into the kitchen and vacuum and drag a wet cloth over the baseboards and the tops of the clock and pictures. You see where I am going with this.

It was like the nail in the shoe of the horse to save the kingdom story, it went on and on. Or the swallowed the fly, I don’t know why story that was endless. So, two days later(!) I finally unboxed my machine and went through the nightmare of updates and notifications and passwords and settings that are, still, in fact, ongoing.

Because, you see, Monday was also when Midnight arrived. So, I had to postpone my new computer to play the game and to see what was what. And then Tuesday morning was the first Reset Day, and we got our crafting quests and those just had to be done.

The machine is fine. The screens load quickly now, and it is quiet, no fan blowing hard when entering a new zone like Silvermoon. The next step, next month I think, will be a new monitor. A wise person told me back in 1990 that eighty-five percent of our computing experience is visual; so a new viewing device is next on my list.

I’m at the stage in my house where I am done enough with this idea and my role as an adventurer that I want to tear the whole thing down and start over. My focus has shifted to leveling and gearing up and fishing and cooking, so I’m going to leave my house as it is for a while — kinda. I can’t just leave it alone!

………………………………………………………………………………………

So I decided to let my plants go crazy and grow over my once pristine and perfect area.

This idea was more fun than I expected, and I spent some good time on it. And I could spend even more. Those plants might take over the whole hallway! As ever, in game looks better than screenshots.

……………………………………………………………………………

One of the endeavor tasks was to do 50 decor in your house. I almost scoffed, only fifty? I claimed a corner to install one of the fountains from the campaign questline because it was so pretty. I’m still pushing things around in this area. And I added some of the other rewards here and there in my home. At this point, I’m waiting to get to Level 8 so I can get an additional room to work on instead of destroying everything.

There is so much play with a new expansion. I’m excited and frustrated and eager to play some more.
